The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is calling upon Catholics to “contact your two U.S. Senators and your Representative and urge them to vote against a resolution authorizing the use of military force in Syria.”
The bishops urge Catholics to “support U.S. leadership, in collaboration with the international community, for an immediate ceasefire in Syria and serious, inclusive negotiations for peace.”
Bishop Richard E. Pates sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, who is Catholic, last week. Quoting the position of the Holy See, Bishop Pates wrote: “’[T]he path of dialogue and negotiation between all components of Syrian society, with the support of the international community, is the only option to put an end to the conflict and to the violence that every day causes the loss of so many human lives….’ We ask the United States to work with other governments to obtain a ceasefire, initiate serious negotiations, provide impartial and neutral humanitarian assistance, and encourage building an inclusive society in Syria that protects the rights of all its citizens, including Christians and other minorities.”

They're in denial that Assad could not do this again quickly. And al Nusra ( jihadists) and Assad are not in the ball park of dialogue though the ordinary freedom fighters would be. The jihadists even if they lose love death in battle because it gets them 72 houri after death….girls who look like Nicole Scherzinger. How do the Bishops intend to bring them to a dialogue table when they want sharia in all their areas as in NE Syria right now…or they get killed and get 72 Nicole clones. What are the Bishops going to offer?…that al Nusra values.

Bill, as always, you are correct.
Regardless of the merits or demerits of intervention, what should we expect the bishops to say? They're merely de facto pacifists. They're no better than Gandhi telling European Jews to suffer their persecution under the Nazis and go to their deaths quietly.
Pope Francis is another one who worships at the altar of dialogue, especially when it concerns Islam. The whole lot of them would make wonderful dhimmis. Come to think of it, they already are.

Joseph,
You need to consider concealed carry or open carry if you're in the P.A. suburbs. A domestic nut case could be in your vicinity. The popes bodyguards carry Sig Sauers…$2400 a pop. Apparently even he is prepared for non dialogue off camera.

As I've said before and will undoubtedly say again, the institutional Church both misunderstands and overvalues "dialogue".
