Do we suggest that if there is one faithful Christian living in a cave in Siberia, that is enough to fulfill Our Lord’s promise that the gates of hell have not prevailed against the Church? I don’t think so.
Actually, I think we are perilously close, in human terms, to the gates of hell prevailing. If the hierarchy of the Church, from top to bottom, acts and teaches in a way contrary to the faith, in my mind the gates of hell have prevailed. But God keeps his promises, that is why I think we are reaching the end of this trial, for it to continue as it is, the gates of hell will soon prevail. Since that can’t happen, do the math…tick tick tick.
