The SBA List isn’t happy with the floated idea of Rep. Renee Ellmers being put on the committee to investigate Planned Parenthood. And I’ll admit, neither am I.
Currently, John Boehner (who is still speaker, mind you) is appointing members to the Energy and Commerce select panel to investigate Planned Parenthood in light of the videos released by the Center for Medical Progress.
The SBA List released this statement:
“There is no shortage of outspoken and determined pro-life members who would be well-suited to serve on a newly created select panel investigating Planned Parenthood. Congresswoman Ellmers should not be on the committee.
“Congresswoman Ellmers is lobbying for a position on the panel and recently sent a taxpayer-funded mailer to her constituents touting her pro-life bona fides and her leadership on this issue. The members of the committee are yet to be named.
“Rep. Ellmers comments earlier this year led to the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act being pulled from consideration on the eve of the March for Life just as hundreds of thousands of pro-life Americans – mainly youth – poured into the streets to protest abortion on-demand up until birth.
“Congresswoman Ellmers unpredictable behavior would make her inappropriate choice for this important appointment.”
Let me explain. No, it’s too much. Let me sum up.
I’ll take you back in time. Republicans won the majority!!! Yay! So we’re going to see some progress on the slam dunk legislation- the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Now, it was rolling along. All were happy in pro-life world -well as happy as we get while thousands of abortions takes place every day. But still, it looked like a good day. Until…Renee Ellmers.
Yup. Congressman Ellmers fretted that she would be attacked with the “War on Women” meme employed by Democrats all the time because the rape exception in the bill said that the rape had to be reported to police. In short, she was worried that pro-choicers would attack her on this point. So, in order to placate pro-choicers she turned her back on pro-lifers. (Ain’t that always the case.)
And after that, pro-lifers were disappointed. They criticized Ellmers. She, in turn, attacked pro-lifers (Aint that always the case too.) She wrote, “I remain disappointed that the concern for the language of mandatory reporting of rape to law enforcement held by House Republican women and many men were not addressed before our leadership made the decision to pull the bill from the House floor in the eleventh hour. Additionally, I am appalled by the abhorrent and childish behaviors from some of the leaders of the outside groups.”
So pro-choicers criticize Ellmers and they get results. Pro-lifers criticize Ellmers and they get scolded for being “abhorrent and childish.”
So pro-lifers have to ask ourselves, is this the representative we want investigating Planned Parenthood when she has shown us a propensity for buckling under with withering glare of pro-aborts and attacking pro-lifers?
The position of investigating Planned Parenthood will not be a pretty one. Planned Parenthood is going to come at them pretty darn hard. We need someone willing to stand up for life.
