I’m not a Trump supporter but Pope Francis essentially calling trump out as “not a Christian” seems a bit out of bounds, doesn’t it?

Pope Francis would never say this about an active married homosexual or a politician who supports abortion but on this he’s willing to call Trump out? “Who am I to judge” is sooooooo 2013, I guess.

Here’s what the pope said, according to one translation:

Thank god he said I was a politician because Aristotle defined the human person as “animal politicus.” So at least I am a human person. As to whether I am a pawn, well, maybe. I don’t know. I’ll leave that up to your judgment and that of the people. And then, a person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the Gospel. As far as to what you said about whether I would advise you to vote or not to vote, I am not going to get involved in that. I say only that this man is not Christian is he has said things like that. We must see if he said things in that way and in this I give him the benefit of the doubt.

There’s going to be a lot of parsing about this and people telling you he didn’t really say what he said. But here’s the thing -he did. It was an unwise thing to say in my opinion.

There’s many good Christians who worry about the millions of undocumented people coming across the border. Does Pope Francis’ condemnation of Trump also condemn them as non-Christians? Are we now trying to alienate believers from the Church?

Interestingly, he didn’t seem to say anything to the Mexican officials about the harsh immigration policies they have on their southern border.
