I have often said one of the most underrated events in the history of both our country and the Church is the thousands and thousands of nuns who left shortly after Vatican II. Catholic school students have suffered terribly because of this. As tuitions rose at Catholic schools, many parents opted for the public school system which, sadly, sometimes act more as indoctrination centers than educational institutions. Religious education at many parishes is pathetic. So you now have generations of underinformed and misinformed Catholics who only have the vaguest notions of what it means to be Catholic.

Many young people now report being spiritual but not religious. They’re often called “nones.” Might this have something to do with them being told that all religions are pretty much the same and that even if there’s a Hell, nobody actually goes there?
