What did this mother think she was getting when she sent her children to a non-Jesuit Catholic school?
What part of “thou shalt not kill” is she having a problem understanding?
CBC: An Ontario Catholic school is under fire for a Grade 8 assignment that requires students to make anti-abortion posters for marks and the chance to win a cash prize.
The assignment at St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School in Woodstock involves students creating a poster that includes the words “Unborn Babies Matter,” along with a picture or pictures that incorporate the theme. The in-class assignment is being graded and entered in a contest run by a local anti-abortion group.
“The parents weren’t told about it, and they’re not allowing the kids to learn about the opposite side of this issue,” said Rachelle Lynn Dixon, whose daughter Kaydence, 13, alerted her mom to the assignment. “It’s a Catholic school, but it’s also funded by the public. It’s an elementary school that is asking kids to Google images about abortion.
“I want her [Kaydence] to form her own opinion,” added her mom. “I understand it’s a Catholic school and it teaches Catholic beliefs, but we’re living in a day and age where women’s rights matter. With everything going on in the world, I don’t think these kids need to have this added on top of it.”

Dixon spoke Thursday morning to the school, and said she plans to pull her two children from the Catholic system at the end of this school year.

Unfortunately for this woman, the Church might just be a little more attuned to what God has said about killing human beings rather than the intellectual ramblings of an MSNBC mom in high dudgeon.
She believes the school should allow both sides to be expressed. Hmmm. There’s an idea. What other issues should we have the children learning both sides of? Slavery? The holocaust?
Here’s the truth, if the Church isn’t pissing off brain atrophying, kool-aid drinking, amoral weather vanes like this person, what is it doing?

The law in a sane nation would be that anyone who publicly voices support for abortion is understood to be saying they wish they had been aborted themselves and so the state swoops them up and aborts them to help them out with that.

You go to a Catholic school, you should be taught Catholic values. You go to a Jewish school, you should be taught Jewish values. You go to a public school, you are taught groomers’ values. There really aren’t surprises.

Canada is not the US. The Catholic schools in Ontario are publicly funded, and they are about as Catholic as Georgetown University in the US. The “religious education” they provide is generally about how to be a nice person who fits into 21st-century society.
