Mel Gibson, please hurry up.

Martin Scorsese, the director of the Last Temptation of Christ, met with Pope Francis, felt inspired, and has now announced he’ll be making a film about the life of Christ.

Hmmmmm.

Scorsese also made the 2016 film Silence about Jesuits who renounce their faith while under duress in Japan.

So yeah, I’m not feeling all that great about the chances of this being an inspiring piece of Christian art. Maybe I’m wrong. Obviously, Scorsese is capable of making great films but maybe his understanding of Jesus differs from mine a bit.

I would, however, love to see more serious movies about faith. So many of the Christian movies have wonderful messages but lack artistry. Scorsese, on the other hand, has all the artistry but I’m not sure his message will be all that great. I hope I’m wrong.

Either way, the follow up to Mel Gibson’s the Passion of the Christ can not happen soon enough.
