If you want less of something, tax it. So why would the state of Wisconsin want less charitable giving to a Catholic organization?
Hmmm….

The AP reports: The Supreme Court appeared Monday to be leaning toward a Catholic charitable organization pushing back against the state of Wisconsin in the latest religious rights case to come before the court.
In a case that could have wide-ranging effects, the justices suggested the Catholic Charities Bureau should not have to pay unemployment taxes because the work of the social services agency is motivated by religious beliefs, and the state exempts religious groups from the tax.
“Isn’t it a fundamental principle of our First Amendment that the state shouldn’t be picking and choosing between religions?” Justice Neil Gorsuch said.
I hope and pray that the Supreme Court shows a spine on this. The media seems pretty unanimous that the justices seem to be siding with Catholic Charities but their duplicity and spinelessness know no measure.
It’s not that I’m a huge defender of Catholic Charities but that’s the first step towards taxing the schools too. And once they can tax them they can push them to become a tad jesuitical and lenient about the faith.
