You want to talk about irony? Here’s a dollop: We live in a society utterly obsessed with sex. It’s in every movie, every song, plastered on every billboard. It’s the central topic of our dying civilization, and yet, we’re not having children. The West is literally dying for lack of babies.
And don’t even get me started on the politicians. They think if they throw enough taxpayer money at the problem, people will suddenly feel a surge of patriotic fervor and start popping out kids. Please. Nobody is having babies for “the good of the nation.” That’s a fantasy cooked up by people who’ve never changed a diaper. Raising a child, loving them, and making them into an adult is an act that is so counter intuitive to our modern instincts as to be bordering on being labeled insanity. It’s something you practically have to be a devout religious person to even consider doing more than once.
When my wife announced we were having our fourth child, a well-meaning friend told me that if we kept having children I’d never get to go back to a “normal life.” At the time he didn’t have children. So I understood that he had no idea what he was talking about. Now he does and he understands that the “normal” me-centered life is boring, selfish, and shallow.
When we live for others we are truly alive.
Now, some of the usual suspects will offer their “solutions” but we can’t kill our way out of this no matter what Planned Parenthood says. And you certainly can’t “self-empower” your way to more children, no matter what the gurus on TikTok tell you.
This isn’t a problem for your therapist or your latest self-help book. This is a problem that requires something profoundly counter-intuitive: a willingness to love someone else more than you love yourself. And if you’re looking for the source of that kind of radical, self-sacrificing love, there’s only one place to find it. Christianity alone can save Western civilization.
In this era of western civilization when sex is the main topic of every conversation, it’s rather ironic that its dying for lack of children.
People will not have babies for patriotic reasons, no matter what governments do to promote it. The taking on of creating, loving, and nurturing a child into adulthood is something you almost have to be religious to be so crazy as to do more than once.
We can not kill children to fix this. You can not self empower your way to fixing this.
This is a problem that can only be solved by a counter intuitive willingness to love others more than yourself. Christianity alone can save western civilization.

The lack of babies problem is solved in Europe by mass immigration. Thus, despite the UK fertility rate being below the replacement rate, the UK population has continued to grow. Moreover, the kind of people who are allowed to stay in the UK tend to have a higher rate of fertility than the native population. Similar story in Germany. As of 2024, around 16.8 million people living in Germany, or about 20% of the population, are first-generation immigrants, while the population share with a migrant background in the wider sense was almost 30%.

And if you look at who IS having babies, you are looking at the future.
