I read something today in the Washington Stand. Gave me a bit of hope. I’m all in for hope. I hope you are too. 2026 and all.
America is seeing a major shake-up in the soul. People’s spiritual lives are changing. Big time. The biggest shift? Young folks—Gen Z, Millennials—leading the charge into church. Nobody saw it coming. Barna, the polling firm, says so. They track this stuff.
And the kids are not just showing up. No no. They’re coming in numbers outpacing the boomers. It used to be when people got older they started focusing on mortality and questioning things and considering spiritual things more. Not the boomers. They’re still to busy crowing about Woodstock, the Beatles, and impeaching Nixon. Sunday mornings are increasingly packed with the young. I’ve seen it myself but that’s anecdotal. Barna says this is the first time ever, since they started looking in ’91 that things are changing. The old crowd? The Boomers? The Elders? They’re not the main act anymore.
Barna says that millennials, Gen Z are showing up. Now, the typical Gen Z? Nearly twice a month. Millennials, just under twice. That’s up. Growth.
Barna states that young people are craving belonging to something larger than themselves. Maybe it’s a Covid thing. Maybe it’s because this generation was the first raised where everything they were taught was evolution, materialism, and THE SCIENCE. Maybe, just maybe, Covid opened their eyes. Maybe they realized materialism doesn’t come close to understanding the human experience. There’s so much more. You ask an evolutionist about love and they’ve got theories about how humans needed to invent love in order to survive the elements and the larger carniverous animals. Self sacrifice was an evolutionary necessity, they say so therefore it happened. But that’s not how it feels. It feels more important. It feels like you’re connecting with something larger than an evolutionary necessity.
But that’s not all. Interest in Jesus? Surge. Especially among Gen Z guys. Since COVID—since 2020—interest’s been climbing.
66 percent of Americans say they’ve made a personal commitment to Jesus. Still important. That’s up 12 points since 2021. Now? Steady climb. Year after year.
Barna’s tracking it. It’s clear. Something’s happening. Something real. Spiritual renewal? Maybe. Or something bigger. Who knows? But it’s happening. That much is certain.
This is not something you’ll see a whole lot about in the mainstream but it’s happening in the real world. I pray it continues because the more people seek truth, the more they will find Jesus.

“This is not something you’ll see a whole lot about in the mainstream but it’s happening in the real world.”
We really shouldn’t care what the mainstream reports. Jesus’ birth wasn’t in the NY Times or Al Jazeera either but it happened. Even if we read or hear about the surge of Gen Z or Millennials in the mainstream source it will be twisted in such a way to make it look like a bad thing or insignificant. Anyone still paying attention to CNN, MSN, CBS, ABC, Politico, Huff Post, NY Times and those other liberal rags deserve to be misinformed. That is their job.

My Antiochian Orthodox parish is packed with young people. 30+ catechumens, with 13 baptisms yesterday (Theophany.)
