In the past two years, a total of three people jumped off the All-America Bridge to commit suicide.
And that was such an assault on the senses of America, that President Obama and the liberals in Congress passed $7.5 million in funding for improvements to the bridge which includes installing a fence to prevent people from jumping.
Oddly, aren’t these the same group of people who support abortion of viable babies on demand, federal funding for abortions overseas, destroying embryos for medical research, euthanasia, and physician assisted suicide?
Does this make sense to anybody?

Makes sense to me – unborn and embryos can’t vote, and the terminally ill and infirmed are unlikely to make it to the polls. Those jumpers, though – they’re citizens just ripe for ACORN picking.

Why don’t they want people to exercise their autonomy regarding their own end-of-life decisions? Why are they trying to force their anti-suicide morality on us?
Anti-choicers!
Wait…maybe it’s because it’s not ASSISTED suicide…and, if nothing else, Dems want to be “involved”…
God Bless,
Ryan

Gravity Assisted Suicide?
Stalin said 1 death is a tragedy, 1 million is a statistic. Go from there.

As long as we can’t see the suicides, and the abortions, and everything else…that’s okay. It’s only when our sins are brought into the light that they bother us.
“And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed” (John 3:19-20 RSV).

Obama is making a pre-emptive strike with the fencing; anticipating what will happen when Americans finally realize we will be $12 Trillion in debt.

I saw that and had the same thought. Does he have a handbook he could send out as to which dead people are okay and which are not?

It makes perfect sense to me: Kill those who DON’T want to die, and force those who DO want to die to live. The common theme is the government screwing with individual lives against their will.

pshaw. This isn’t about preventing suicides, its about providing jobs and reparing the infrastructure. Suicides and “how to” can be found under “health care” and prevention of global warming- oops that’s yesterday’s crisis- I mean “climate chnge.”

Well there’s really 5 problems: 1) as mentioned it is publicly visible for what it is, 2) The body ends up out for all to see and needs to be picked up and 3) nobody is getting Paid 4) if you let a bunch of depressed people go around committing suicide you put a lot of mental health professionals out of work and dramatically cut back on the refills for Welbutrin, Prozak etc. Finally, 5) There’s no special interest group standing to make a buck out of it.

Comrade, you have to understand. If you want to commit suicide it must be done after filling out the proper paperwork and using a government approved suicide site.

It’s all much easier to digest if you just think of it as a very, very late-term self-abortion, and the jumper as a an ex-utero fetus in its 20th+ trimester. It’s a walking, talking blob of tissue folks, not a human. It’s above my pay grade to think about it any further…

Exactly, Mathew! Much better put! 🙂

Matthew,
I didn’t know that one. I’m going to get that one. Thanks for the heads up.
A rather odd point of view for a liberal like Vonnegut, though, huh?
