Way to stand up for life, Cardinal Mahony. Way to go!
Hey, he’s just like Obama. Obama says abortion is above his pay grade. And Cardinal Mahony says it’s “Beyond my field.” The only problem is that Cardinal Mahony is a Cardinal!
You’ve got to love the part where he says “that’s what the President said” about abortion not being in the bill. Come on. Give me a break. Anyone with access to Google knows that’s a lie. Everyone.
This is truly sickening.

Anonymous who's dissing JPII:
YOu mean stuff like the downfall of the Iron Curtain, Theology of the Body, witness to the dignity of human life, some other very good episcopal appointments, promoting Cardinal Ratzinger to a high Vatican post, and inspiring a good number of men and women to enter the priesthood and religious life?
And yes, I am aware of the Scandal (which had been brewing well before his papacy), Assisi, liturgical stuff, and so forth. But I will not have him demeaned as you have done.

Then What Pray Tell IS his field? Besides out in left?

SherryTex: As a bishop, his field is pastoral i.e. shepherding souls to lead them to the Lord God. As a cardinal, it is being a consultant to the Pope. As a Democrat supporter, it is not proper for a spiritual leader. As a left-fielder, it is not very good.

Geez, Anonymous (September 24, 2009 3:39 PM), it was a side question (BTW: Who made him Cardinal?; from first comment above).
I love JP the Great and Benedict XVI. Neither are perfect, but they do represent unity in the Church.
Let us all pray as Catholics and not fundamentalists for Christ's bride to be spotless for her Groom. (Eph 5: 27) (This is by Christ's work BTW.)

This reminds me of the time I approached my pastor offering to give a talk to the Parish on stem cell research and cloning. Honest to goodness, he replied that "theology really isn't my field." He then directed me to the associate pastor, who then directed me to the religious education coordinator who passed me off to the Knights of Columbus.

The Cardinal is a slick politician first. None of his inconisstencies are surprising at all, if you remember who he really is. He did not always act as a politician first. He banned, for example, heterodox speakers from the religious education gathering in the diocese of Stockton. He sold out, and it should be obvious to anyone observing his behavior.

What's more dangerous than a wolf in sheep'clothing?
A wolf in shepard's clothing.

He learned from the guy who said "It's above my paygrade."
