Thanks for posting Fr. Barron's videos–for introducing me to them. I've enjoyed them all, but I think this one just became my favorite.
I lived in Spain for about six months and enjoyed seeing the same places Fr. Barron is talking about in Avila, Segovia and Toledo. I've also been struck by the indifference or sort of "Yeah, we know we have better art and architecture than you culturally-starved and puritanical folks from the U.S., but the really great thing about our culture is something way more fun . . ."–like, for instance, their custom of dressing up in elaborate costumes and bar-hopping in said costumes 'til the wee hours of the morning for el Carnavál (their Mardi Gras). I enjoyed my six months in Spain but was only too happy to get home again.
I encourage any practical Catholic to go to Spain, by far the most moving Christian art I've seen… and I include ITALY! Bum-bum-BUM!
But it really is disheartening too. I was moved to tears by a ton of amazing, emotional art, and my friend just kept checking his watch, wondering when we'd get back to a bar. It really gives you a feel for what people who aren't Christians are missing in the world.
