Monsignor Mark Brennan called out the abortion industry this week in his public testimony against a bill restricting crisis pregnancy centers, calling them “bullies” who are intent on marginalizing pro-life crisis pregnancy centers.
As you likely already know the Baltimore City Council passed a first-of-its-kind measure that would fine crisis pregnancy centers $150 a day if they fail to post signs stating they do not “provide or make referrals for abortion or birth-control services. Now Montgomery County, Maryland is following suit.
This is nothing but secular liberalism on the march. If successful, we’ll surely be seeing bills like this throughout the country. Have you ever heard of government forcing not-for-profits to publicly post things that they don’t do? That’s crazy.
Is the abortion industry that covetous of death that they must force the government to infringe on the rights of people, to ensure that they have a crack at talking women into abortion?
The bill, of course, has no similar requirements for abortion providers. Will abortion providers be forced to say that they don’t recommend adoption to people or counsel that keeping the child alive might be the right thing to do? Nope. Do they counsel about the possible long term traumatic effects of abortion? Nope. Do they tell people that birth control pills are abortifacients? No way.
But, I guess, the county is cool with all that.
Kudos to Monsignor Brennan for testifying to the truth of what’s going on here. Check out the video here because nobody in the mainstream media reported on it.

Thuggery, criminality, abuse, deception, and dissembling are all part and parcel, the soul and heart of a movement that has slaughtered fifty million unborn infants in the United States alone…and continues to do so with the support of some of our most promimant Americans including the POTUS.

I'd be fine with this law if abortion mills had to have big signs about all the services they don't carry like allowing you to see an ultra sound of your baby or providing any type of support for carrying your baby to term.

And also include about how they will not report child abuse.

Talking about the MSM and the pro-aborts, during a hearing for the personhood amendment in MD last session year (MD 925), there were at least 4 times the amount of people testifying for the amendment (I was one) as those opposed. The pro side was first (about 16 private people, ~ 1 lobbyist and 1-2 bill sponsor(s)), the con side last (~4 lobbyists only, no private individ).
There was one MSM camera at the hearing. When did the camera start to set up, not just start to film? Just before the con side started talking near the end of the proceedings. Talk about bias in action!

I think we have an unrealistic expectation that we're dealing with open and fair people.
In my observation, they've made up their minds. So, they're not open. They know they're killing an innocent person but they do not care because it means votes and money.
So, fair play is not their game. They're out to win at all costs. Personal morality does not bar them from hitting below the belt because they are immoral. What matters to them is winning.

I absolutely loathe a government that assumes that I, along with the majority of others, are complete bloody morons!

We, the Crisis Pregnancy Center, do not perform abortions or kill children in any other manner. We do not refer to abortionists or any other form of hit man. We do not provide cover to sexual predators. We do not charge you large sums of money for procedures which will damage your health and destroy your child, while not solving any of your problems.

I have volunteered at a crisis pregnancy center for over 15 years. We have never presented ourselves as anything other thatn opposed to abortion. Occasionally, a call will come in asking if we do abortions. the answer is always, "No." If the caller then asks where she can get an abortion, we always say we don't refer. We do, of course offer our assistance. That there is objection to that assistance only proves that these people are not "pro-choice." They fully oppose any choice other than abortion/what lines their pockets. Terentia

Matthew A.,
Thank-you for posting the video. Has the Church done anything to publicise this outrageous bill?
I think getting some facts to butress the anecdotal evidence might help our arguement, to wit:
-How many crisis pregnancies are seen at the centers vs. how many abortions are performed at loval abortion clinics;
-What does the science tell us about the quantifiable long-term psychological effects of abortion;
-At what age does a fetus demonstrate detectable heartbeat; detectable brainwaves; a bloodtype which may be different from the mother's (things an abortion clinic would not disclose)
-What services do the crisis centers provide that the abortion clinics do not (adoption, financial or emotional assistance to the mother to asist her in carrying her child to term, etc.);
-Et al.
Pro-lifers know the answers to many of these questions, but I found frequently we do not press our indisputable facts. The opposing side makes the arguement about "rights" and "feelings", and we lose ground we can't recover. (Witness decades of legalized abortion despite putatively pro-life presidents 24 of the past 37 years, with long stretches of putatively pro-life legislators and a Supreme Court occasionally, just narrowly, ostensibly pro-life.
If I may offer a personal note, when I was a teen in rural Connecticut, our parish and local Knights assisted a local home for women with crisis pregnancies. Who do you think blatantly set up shop diagonally across the street? Planned Parenthood…! They have a plan, and it includes dominating any discussion to preclude a real "debate", and crowding out of the public space any opposition to their agenda.
Well, that is my take on it.

Anon- your sarcasm hits the mark, life centers across the country should come up with a statement like that but cleaned up and positive. This might stop the harassment of pro-life centers. FWIW – in NY State the previous Attorney General tried to go after life centers for fraud but was forced to stop the probe and admit there was no fraud. He then became governor Eliot Spitzer AKA Client NO. 9.

Bursting with pride: that's MY pastor! I heard there were about 100 pro-life people at the hearing, but the council seems to have already made up its proabort mind. Sigh.

I suggest people start to write letters to these local governments and their Chambers of Commerce telling them they will not visit their cities if they pass these bills. Stop the flow of money for hotels, etc…
