Senator Bob Casey, who is still awaiting his much needed spine implentation surgery, is saying he’s more pro-life than you. Yup. He went there.
Taking a cue from Patrick Kennedy who accused the Church of not being pro-life because it didn’t want federal funding of abortion, Casey took his turn at bat.
In an interview with Greta Van Susteren Senator Bob Casey called out pro-life conservatives for…well not being as pro-life as he is:
Casey: After all, if you really say you’re pro-life, you should want to cover 31 million Americans and provide all kinds of preventative services that will make women and their children a lot more healthy. So I don’t think you can have it both ways and say you’re pro-life but you don’t want to support health care reform. But we’ll see what happens in the House.
So Bob Casey is more pro-life than you because he voted for federal funding for abortion and unkillable death panels. Got it? I knew you would.
Under Casey’s definition, Ben Nelson is considered pro-life while Bart Stupak is only fake pro-life? These folks are shameless.

Shameless, brazen, callous, dishonest, unfair, insincere. How does one relate and communicate with people like these? Not with truth or goodness, but with power. That's their only reality – carrots & sticks, bribes and threats. I hope the Republicans do much better in 2010. I am ready to vote even for the real elephant because it has good instincts.

Casey suffers from not only a lack of a spine, but a lack of brains. One can support health care reform without supporting this health care reform. One can desire health care financial assistance for 31 million people without supporting the dismemberment of 1.2 million others.

50,000,000 unborn infants slaughtered in the United States and we get moral imbeciles like Bob Casey and those [religious and lay] Catholics who echo his mindless blather, promoting an even greater slaughter of these babies in the womb. I almost have more respect for the abortionist who openly plies his demonic craft than I have for this slimey kind of mincing around a crime that calls down heaven upon our society.

I think we could all agree that Sen. Casey's actions amount to a very public case of bearing false witness. So, let's remind Sen. Casey, et al, that every time we commit a sin we, especially we Catholics, involve the Lord in our misbehaviour. Now, Casey might be able to fool himself into thinking he's getting away with his intellectual and spiritual gerrymandering, but the Lord sees all and is not fooled. Not that I'm speaking for the Lord – just pointing out the obvious that every Catholic should be well aware of if, indeed, one is a Catholic.

I agree with Matthew, above, in saying that being against this health care bill doesn't mean one is against health care reform. I'm definitely for reform of health care, but think this bill is not the way to do it.

Where is Bishop Martino when we need him? I can just imagine what he would have said about Senator Casey's comments if he was still leading our diocese!
There is supposed to be a prayer vigil outside of Casey's house tomorrow night, the feast of the Holy Innocents. Very fitting.
