The most liberal show on television just got more liberal. The “conservative” co-host said in an interview that sure she thinks abortion is killing a human but that doesn’t mean it should be illegal. Yahoo reports:
Hasselbeck, who campaigned with Sarah Palin in ’08, insists that she’s been misunderstood, saying in a recent interview that she regards President Barack Obama as an “incredibly cool guy” and parts company with conservative culture warriors on the charged issues of gay marriage and abortion rights. On the latter front, she says she’s “torn”; she offers fairly unequivocal support on the controversial question of same-sex unions.
In an interview with Fancast’s Adam Buckman, Hasselbeck insists she’s not “ultra-ultra-conservative on every issue.” “I actually support gay marriage,” she says, an admission that puts her to the left of Obama.
As for abortion, Hasselbeck confirms she believes that life begins at conception but also says she doesn’t think the government should tell women what to do with their bodies. “I’m torn there in terms of supporting laws” for or against abortion, she says. “I always say I would rather a change in heart than a law.”
The want (even need) to be liked is a dangerous thing.
I can’t stand when people say that when it comes to abortion they’d rather change a heart than the law. I always wonder, can’t we do both?

Nice picture choice.

"The want (even need) to be liked is a dangerous thing."
I think you've nailed it there.
p.s. Typo in the title for "Hasselbeck"

There's such a logical disconnect in the "changing hearts" approach. In what other context would we let an innocent life be taken while we try to convince the perpetrator to have a change of heart? Shouldn't the reverse be true…save the life, then try to change the heart?

Wow, that 15 minutes of fame and notoriety passed quickly. Moving right along….

I bet she's still wondering when she gets her 30 pieces of silver…

I hate it when people start discussing and listening to other points of views. It's wrong. They just need to listen what the Church teaches them. That's it. The Church is right on every matter.

Perhaps she can start with changing her heart…

Just proves that all too often beauty is only skin deep.

Typical Republican.

Her "thinking" is more dangerous and subversive than that of her View co-hosts. At least with them you know exactly where they stand and you can just tune them out. Shame on Elizabeth! What a dope.

Nice try M. Swaim. Injecting politics into the discussion. Maybe we should ask why your party endorses the killing of the unborn?
This is another example why compassion apart from logic can lead one astray.

What a weird comment. Did you infer that he is a Democrat from his statement? M. Swaim sounds more like a Catholic to me.

Any reason you decided that this was an appropriate picture for a Catholic blog?

This is what she thinks "now"? I doubt she has ever truly thought differently. Brian: it wasn't a wierd comment. The comment by M Swaim was the wierd one.

I wouldn't say she is a typical Republican, but I am willing to bet there are more pro-choice Republicans in office than Pro-life Democrats.

Her need to be liked and accepted as part of the crowd has apparently overtaken her. How strong then, were her convictions to begin with. Very disappointing. I find it ironic and funny that those who ask for tolerance, who think conservatives are intolerant, are the very ones who cannot tolerate anyone whose views are not in lock step with their own. I have friends in NY who have distanced themselves from me once they found out I was a militant pro-lifer and a rabid anti-Obama conservative. And yet for years I have known and loved them in spite of their differing views and lifestyles. Hypocritical yes, but I'd rather hold fast to what I know to be the truth than to keep friends who only want me if I agree with them on every issue. So long, Elizabeth. You'll miss us in the end.

PattyinCT has nailed it. I wonder if she's realizing just how much of herself she's just given up for the sake of popularity.

"I have friends in NY who have distanced themselves from me once they found out I was a militant pro-lifer and a rabid anti-Obama conservative." Here Here Kathy. Living in NYC it is tough, and when my "friends" found out I was conservative and pro life, they distanced themselves. I converted to Catholicism I lost a bunch more. Poor Elizabeth, its hard to watch someone follow those who you know have lost their vision.

Barbara Walters knew that Hasselbeck (or …back) was a liberal in disguise when she picked her over some other quality, orthodox (on marriage and abortion) conservatives.
ABC (Disney Co.) wouldn't want any less.
