"Just a reflex?" Behind this seemingly miraculous story is one hell of a quack doctor/midwife/medical team. Movements getting stronger and stronger for two hours and no one checks a heartbeat or respiration? Sorry. Major medical malpractice.
Sadly, I think of all the moms that will now wonder if they had just had the chance to hold their babies…
WHY can't the medical folks TRUST mothers more? Maybe this will help moms and dads everywhere stand up for their babies!
It really bothered me that the reporters kept referring to this as a "medical miracle". Medical implies there was some kind of medical intervention to save the baby, which there was not.
Beautiful story of a mother's love for her child and trust in the instincts she was given. God has blessed this child and family. Hopefully they recognize His hand in the miracle.
Wonderful story. "O day and night, but this is wondrous strange!" Cool mom story. "Kangaroo care". They were just trying to make the most of their only time with their dead baby. As someone who has held two dead sons and seen a newborn grandson come strong and healthy out of hospice care for severe brain injury, I say "Hurrah!" No explanations need be given, no claims made. Just… how cool. "There are more things in heaven and on earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
Seems to me like they can't believe the parents would actually care enough to do this for their children; that they didn't give up seems something they can't grasp.
I actually got sickly shiver when (at about the 6:00 mark) they said that the Doctor refused to come back for a baby "doing things that dead babies don't do" – he only returned when he thought he was dealing with a (finally?)dead baby.
Unsurprising the lack of skepticism, however, it is well documented that those with recent bereavement will perceive signs of life including hallucinating movement and sound emanating from a dead body. Something to consider.
"Medical miracle" is an oxymoron. If it's "medical", then it's not a "miracle". Of course there was nothing medical at all about this story, besides the medical neglect of the health care team. As joyful of a story as this is, my heart is saddened that God was not mentioned once in this story. It was just luck, I guess. Alas…
