Just this past weekend, shoppers at the the Macy’s in Philadelphia (the old Wanamaker building) were surprised when over 600 choristers who were there mingling with regular shoppers suddenly burst into Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus. It’s pretty awesome.
The Opera Company of Philadelphia was instrumental in bringing it together to perform one of the Knight Foundation’s “1000 Random Acts of Culture” which they’ll be doing over the next three years across the country. Accompanied by the Wanamaker Organ – the world’s largest pipe organ – the singers burst into song at exactly noon.

How awesome this event was and what a great witness for our God! Wish I could have been there to be a part of it.

Awesome! I was a little surprised to see someone wrote this is a "simple" piece. Every section must learn the right part and timing is everything. I would have loved to have been in this group, praising God and enjoying the thrill of spreading God's Word in song to unsuspecting others. Thank you!! It brought back many memories of other times I've been blessed to sing this. Thank you Macy's for letting this event occur. May everyone have a MERRY CHRISTMAS as we join together and celebrate Jesus' birth..in faith, heart and song!A former 1st Soprano. 🙂

Simply wonderful. Brought tears to my eyes. This music reaches right in and touches the soul as it is but brought into a setting that doesn't expect riches of this nature, it is even more stirring.

This is a most awesome hymn! Can't imagine what it must have been like to have that magnificent organ play w/all these voices joining in. Would love to have been there! What a marvelous idea! Send this video to the White House. The visitors there should see it! Barb

Magnificent! I think I would feel like I had reached heaven standing amongst those angelic voices at Macy's.

Oh my heavens! This is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen (next to the birth of a child)! What an amazing and wonderful idea. Thank you so very, very much to the brilliant and inspired minds who thought of this. With Christmas becoming more and more secularized this is a wonderful reminder of what Christmas is all about. I burst into tears, I was so choked with emotion seeing the amazed looks of the shoppers and hearing all of those amazing voices. Thank you, thank you, thank you all for the best gift of all!

Judging by this amazing response to what is after all simply singers singing a beautiful song then I think this world is craving some peace and quiet of the body and soul.

On Christ the SOLID ROCK I stand!! All other ground is sinking sand. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD … forever and ever. Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Halle – lu – jahhhhhh!!!!
Just last Sunday morning at our church in Wisconsin, we received a sermon on the coming return of Christ in all His glory. WOW! I look forward with hope that it resembles something as glorious as this example, only 1000 times better.
