As if I needed another reason not to trust Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels. Daniels said yesterday that if given the choice he’d pick Condoleeza Rice as his Vice President.
And as impressive as Rice is, she’s pro-choice.
Daniels already had me worried about his pro-life commitment with his talk about a social issues “truce.” But then Daniels went ahead and defunded Planned Parenthood in Indiana, making me reconsider a bit. But in looking at that bill, it seems likely that it was more indicative of the pro-life commitment of the Indiana legislature, rather than a willingness to lead on Daniels’ part.
Daniels seems to be a front runner for the nomination if he actually announces -which seems very likely at this point. But I think I’m done with Daniels. I don’t trust him.

Why Condi, why?! I absolutely love and respect her, but always assumed that someone as smart as her would have figured out the abortion issue. It's not a complicated issue (as she suggests in the Youtube video). Addressing and rectifying the abortion mess we're in may be complicated, but the morality is shockingly simple.
Let's hope and pray that she has changed her views in the past 3 years. I'd love to support her on a ticket.

Even if she's impressive, she can't be much if she does not understand the State's duty to defend the life of it's tiny citizens. If she can't see the person in a fetus, then she needs a class in embriology or look at videos in YouTube. But if she knows that and still denies these individuals their personhood with inalienable rights, then she not only lacks a brain, she also has no heart. Lucifer was the brightest too but, look where it got her.

It is funny that someone so smart as Condi Rice fails to understand the most fundamental right of all. Do you think someone in the Pro-Life community should reach out to her and try to explain this fact. I can think of any number of charismatic Pro-Lifer's who could reach out. Maybe, just maybe, it will work.

Daniels speaks with a group of students over drinks and hypothetically floats Condi Rice as a VP candidate IF he ran. Then, you write that you don't trust Daniels. Stepping back and looking at the big picture here, what could Condi Rice do exactly?
You wrote that you were starting to like Daniels. He supported pro-life initiatives. Hey! He's even electable. But the one area where Daniels might be lacking is foreign policy, making a Condi Rice HYPOTHETICAL pick truly interesting.
Maybe you should let Daniels himself actually speak his motivations before you take table-side conversations and blow them out of proportion.

A pro-choice veep is not something we can negotiate about. It's a non-starter. The fact that he had a drink in his hand means nothing to me. This man is running for President of the United States (maybe) and I'm only supposed to pay attention to his words sometimes?

Sorry, if the people considering a run for president haven't made themselves clear on this issue yet, then I think we have every indication that they are going to twist in the wind. For many of us, this is the key issue that will determine how we vote, and there are already better choices. Hopefully Huckabee announces today.

In vino veritas, he muttered ironically.
Condi? No, too close in the line of succession. Remember what Mark Hanna said of VP Theodore Roosevelt: "Don't you realize there's only one life between that madman and the White House?"

The milquetoast Daniels is toast. He will go the way Rudy Giuliani, who came into the 2008 election campaign with a roar only to quickly go out with a whimper once his pro-choice views became known.

I don't getting doubting Daniels. He just defunded Planned Parenthood, the biggest pro-life victory of any of the GOP potential candidates by far. As far as I'm concerned, everyone else has just talked about opposing abortion. They may have talked better than Daniels, but his actions are far more impressive than the rest combined. You may oppose him for other reasons, but on the abortion issue I think he's solid now.

Michael,
HE didn't de-fund Planned Parenthood. The Indiana legislature has the honor of THAT claim. He was brought kicking and screaming to the signing table to sign their law. Remember he was against it and publicly tried to call a political "truce" on the issue. In other words he would give up a "core belief" in order to get a long with those who insist on the legality of people killing their offspring. The Condi Rice for VP comment once again really shows his core belief

"Daniels seems to be a front runner for the nomination if he actually announces"…
Where is the evidence of that? What opinion poll shows him in (or near) the lead? I haven't seen it.
Where is his base of supporters? He has managed to alienate all three of the core elements of the conservative movement: 1) pro-life, pro-family people (or 'social conservatives' as some call us) – we all know about the "truce" comment. 2) Defense/military advocates – by saying that military spending should be slashed (along with lots of other spending, to be sure) as part of deficit reduction. 3) the pro-growth, anti-tax folks – by suggesting that a Value Added Tax might be a good idea.
Furthermore, and I don't think I am being uncharitable in saying this, he is not particularly attractive or charismatic. Nor is he a particularly effective public speaker.
What is his path to the Republican nomination? I just don't see one.

Sigh….oh Condi… why can't you be Pro-life?
