Cindy Lauper flubbed the National Anthem. Kinda’ bad.
It would be one thing if she messed up the words to “She-bop” but I honestly don’t understand how you can mess up the words to the National Anthem. On 9-11!!!
She said later she got choked up but it didn’t really sound like that.
It always seems that the singers who just sing the song don’t forget the words but the singers who have to prove that they can hit every single note in every single word seem to mess up a lot. Ask Christina Aguilera.

How can someone not record this ahead of time?

You should hear the one from last Sunday's Grand Prix race in Baltimore. I'm not sure of the young lady's name, but it was the worst version I've heard in a long time. Cure = sing it like it was written, stop trying to make it 'your own', it isn't.

Need to go back to a military band doing it straight. I've been listening to this musical drivel for the last 30 years, or I should say I've been turning down the sound for the last 30 years. Whoever is responsible for this, stop insulting us!

I thought it was pretty good actually

That wasn't so bad. Slightly different but sincere.

It's bad when you forget the words and put your own in there. Not bad? Really? It's an insult.

An American singer who can't remember the swords to the American national anthem. No excuse. Pathetic.

Lesson #1: Expect rocks when you get a rock star. (Gospel paraphrased)

It used to be (and I haven't seen the sheet music since I graduated HS over 45 years ago) printed on the sheet music that the anthem was to be played and sung reverently.
These "artists" with their "stylings" make it all about them. It's not.
