Stacie Crimm found out she was pregnant. Stacie Crimm found out she had neck and head cancer. She could save herself by killing her baby but she wouldn’t think of it. She refused treatment that would harm her baby.
Doctors had to deliver 2-pound Dottie prematurely. Staci. Mom, died three days later.

A heroine, no doubt. But it would have been licit for her to take the chemo even while pregnant (as this would be an exercise of the double effect). I say this only to note that the ordinary response of taking the treat is neither bad or sinful. However, refusing the treatment with full knowledge of the potential results, is undoubtedly heroic.

Yes, very heroic to protect the baby from potential ill-effects of drug or other treatment. However, your phraseology is downright misleading; I think it shows that you come from an abortion-oriented society. It is NEVER necessary to kill an unborn baby to save the life of his mother. It is false and dangerous to posit such a notion – it is what the pro-abortionists assert in order to get abortion legalised. Abortion in Ireland, where I live, is illegal and medical malpractice. Are pregnant mothers with cancer left untreated for fear of the harm which might be incidentally caused to the baby? Of course not. Pregnant women get the best possible care – as do the unborn patients. In fact, cancer normally abates during pregnancy, and often the baby survives unharmed. Ireland has the lowest maternal mortality rate in the world for about 30 years. Countries where abortion is legal, on the other hand, tend to have higher maternal mortality rates (as well as a lower survival rate among preterm babies). Please be careful in the language you employ – do not inadvertantly fall into the trap of the pro-abortionist's propaganda. Thank you for your great blog. Lynda

This is, indeed inspiring heroism. Thank you, Daniel, for reminding us that this was not a simple case of "doing the right thing, even though it is difficult," but is actually a case of heroically courageous self-sacrifice.
