What song is it that everyone in the world listens to to get all pumped up? That’s right. Eye of the Tiger.

Well, the guy who wrote “Eye of the Tiger” is mad at Newt. It would seem to me that this is not the kind of guy you want mad at you. He could just listen to his own song and get all sorts of pumped up and angry and then come after you.

Fox’s Houston affiliate writes:

The man who composed Survivor’s hit song “Eye of the Tiger” filed a lawsuit against former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in Chicago on Monday in a bid to stop the Republican presidential candidate from using it at campaign events without his permission.

Rude Music Inc., owned by Frank Sullivan who composed and copyrighted the song in 1982, lodged the suit in federal court in Chicago, seeking an injunction against Gingrich, The Chicago Tribune reported.

The suit lists a series of events where Gingrich has used the song made famous by its use in Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky III” to mark his entrance, including appearances at the Conservative Political Action Conference over the past three years and numerous events in the lead-up to the Iowa caucuses.

What’s the deal here? Is Frank Sullivan worried that an affiliation with Newt will hurt his reputation? Dude, you don’t got a reputation. You are just a man with a will to survive.

But this story highlights another disturbing angle. Newt’s song selection stinks. Eye of the freakin’ tiger? Really? There are millions of crappy songs out there but Newt reached in under the pile of crappy songs and pulled out this gem. And you know they had a meeting about this. You know a bunch of aides sat around suggesting songs to Newt and he kept saying no until they got to this one and then he was all like “Awwww yeeeeaaah.”

You know someone probably suggested that awesome synth rock power ballad “The Final Countdown” but it was tossed out because it was by the band called “Europe.” Newt probably freaked about that one. “You can’t have a campaign for the Presidency of the United States have a theme song by the band Europe!!!” I mean, why not something by A-ha or Right Said Fred?
