What kind of priest did the Archdiocese of Washington punish after complaints by a lesbian Buddhist that she wasn’t given the Eucharist? The kind of priest that’s credited with saving the life of a child. The kind of priest who prays in front of abortion clinics. The kind of priest who regularly confront late term abortionist Leroy Carhart.
Lately, I’ve been feeling so good about how the bishops have unanimously responded so strongly to the threat of religious liberty. But something like this reminds me of all the work that’s yet to be done in the Church.
Check out this speech by Fr. Guarnizo. And then weep that he’s the one being punished. And listen carefully to the introduction where he’s credited with bringing the parish together and saving the life of a child:
And here’s a sermon by Fr. Guarnizo on the horrors of abortion.

There is something (one) else here nobody is taking account of. Cardinal Wuerl!!! He destroyed Detroit in the 80's! It was the headquarters for every dissident in the country!!!

May I remind Deacon Keith that we are in full possession of the facts of this case, and have been for at least the past fourteen days. It is Cardinal Wuerl who is clearly in the wrong here. Bishop Knesthout is the Cardinal's "stooge" in this episode and the letter that went out under his name is an outrage.
There are times when we must all act a little like St Anthony of Padua who was not afraid to publicly confront his own Bishop when that Bishop was acting unjustly.
If you need all the facts, Deacon, they are readily obtainable on many a Catholic blog or website.

While we all must remember we are Christians and speak and write as such, we also must seek the Truth and when found, must show it to others. This incident is but a speck in the big picture, but for those close to "home" it is another episode that the hierarchy seems to be failing its people AND its good priests! Too many years of dissidents being ignored (or funded!) while the innocent (Fr. MacRae) are punished or worse. We all know it won't change overnight, but PRAY PRAY PRAY that the good bishops will win, and if we believe the promises (and we should) then we will win. There is nothing wrong with protesting, making phone calls, sending emails and faxes AS LONG AS YOU ARE CHRISTIAN. Please don't be one of the ugly name-callers. No one will listen to your message. Of course we are angry, hurt, indignant, and emotions are valid–but you should not let them guide you to make poor decisions or do something you will regret. Seek the truth, state the truth, plaster it all over the newspapers if you can, but be a Christian. (WWJD)
