It might be worth getting upset if anyone actually read Newsweek anymore. But this goes to show you how desperate they are. I love how the banner on Newsweek is “Stories of the Titanic.” They should know. Newsweek is the Titanic of the publishing world.
You gotta’ love how desperate they are to bring down organized Christianity, especially the Catholic Church. They’ve got self professed Catholic Andrew Sullivan writing the lead piece about getting away from organized religion and then you have liberal hack Paul Begala writing about how the Supreme Court might just “betray” America by overturning Obamacare.
This isn’t even a serious attack but I thought I’d just share it with you guys as more of a point and laugh kind of thing.

Fr. Barron has a good takedown of this silliness here.

Desperation, thy name is Newsweek!

The only thing the Newsweek Jesus is missing is an Occupy t-shirt.

Newsweak is still in business?

Because when I think "solid spiritual advice," I think "Newsweek."

The Jesus Newsweek wants us to follow looks like a Neanderthal moron in a museum diorama, who has somehow escaped, wandering into traffic. Look away from the pretty lights, Lord!

"self professed Catholic Andrew Sullivan."
Does the term "self-professed Catholic" even mean anything anymore? Or does it mean pretty much the same as what "devout Catholic" has come to mean in the mainstream?
…and does "follow Jesus!" even mean anything anymore, particularly when we're content to follow a Jesus of our own making (to wit: overuse of "What Would Jesus Do?" to help justify any amount of self-indulgent bullpuckey that one is likely to dream up)?
One article I read sometime back that asked the question of what it means to be Catholic suggested that anytime anyone professes to be a Catholic– particularly if they dissent from Church teaching in public– we should say, "oh? Prove it!" and not let them think they can get away with ludicrous and incoherent statements such as "shouldn't the Church be laying off abortion and contraception and helping the poor instead?"
WSquared.

The problem with this silliness is that it leads astray people who don't think critically about faith or won't delve deeply into it. And Newsweek does this literally *every year* at Christmas and Easter. "The Real Jesus", "The Real Mary", "The Real Bible", "The Real Christianity" are common titles, as if the folks at Newsweek would be tempted to do anything but scorn them if they knew the real thing.

Newsweek isn't even original! They stole this from a you-tube video that went viral. See
http://www.patheos.com/blogs/badcatholic/2012/01/why-i-hate-religion-but-love-jesus-the-smackdow.html
for the original video and the ultimate response, with compliments to the original where deserved, from Marc Barnes. This response made it to a Wall Street Journal op-ed commendation many weeks ago so they can't claim ignorance. See:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204468004577169261488307448.html
If they have any readers at all they should be honest enough to rename it RehashAndRebashWeek.
April 12, 2012 at 3:36 am
P.S. The original video had 10 million viewers within 10 days! I'll be Newsweek or RehashAndRebashWeek dosen't get 10 million readers in 10 years!

I wonder why the "Jesus" in this artwork looks a lot like Will Ferrell.

Some one asked in a previous comment if anyone reads Newsweek anymore. Sadly the pastor at my parish does and on Divine Mercy Sunday in his homily he decided to put his liberal spin on how right Sullivan is about it all instead of the beautiful words Jesus spoke to Saint Faustina about his promise of Mercy to us or even on the life-changing power of a faith that believes before it sees. If ever a homily was given where equal time from the other side was warranted this was the day. Holy Mary, pray for us.
