What could possibly go wrong when you team up the geniuses behind “Waterworld” and “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” to make a mystery/thriller about the “alleged” resurrection of Jesus?

The Guardian reports:
A mystery thriller about the resurrection of Jesus is being planned by Waterworld director Kevin Reynolds, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Backers LD Entertainment have pitched it as “Gladiator in tone but with a mystery bent, an all-ages movie that tells of how the first Easter came to be”.
Reynolds is attached to Resurrection, which is described as the story “of the first 40 days after the resurrection of Jesus” as seen through the eyes of an “agnostic Roman centurion charged by Pontius Pilate to investigate rumors of a risen Jewish messiah and locate the missing body of Jesus of Nazareth”. The narrative takes place against the backdrop of “an imminent uprising in Jerusalem, and the centurion “meets the Apostles and other historical and biblical characters”.
Kevin Reynolds never particularly impressed me what with Waterworld and that awful “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” movie (both with Costner.) Now, on the other hand, he did also make that miniseries “Hatfields & McCoys” which I thought was pretty good (also with Costner.)
I never did get to sample the sweet cinematic delights of the Street Fighter movies or the Ghost Rider sequel which the producer was part of. My hopes aren’t exactly high on this one. But it’s easy to be snarky about such things. I’m hoping that things go well for this one. I really am.
The thing is, it actually seems to me to be not such a bad idea for a movie. The thing is, you don’t want something like this to be all Kirk Cameron-y and while extremely sincere isn’t exactly a great movie. But you also don’t want it to be a typical Hollywood movie which, while pandering to Christians, secretly hates them. But hey, I’m actually willing to go into this with an open mind. It’s supposedly set to open Easter weekend in 2015.

I am always intrigued that today's movie makers, none of whom possess the talent or insight to make even a proper television commercial, come up with these grandiose ideas for stories. And now comes another nonentity who will pontificate on the history of the Resurrection, a project akin to having Zippy the Chimp perform brain surgery.
Mr Reynolds, another of these characters who "has risen without trace", appears to believe himself capable of such a project. Quite pitiful, really. I mean, let's face it, a David Lean he ain't.
