The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will elect their next president and vice president of USCCB at their meeting next month in Baltimore.
They will be elected from a slate of 10 candidates which are (and the envelope please):
• Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond of New Orleans
• Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, OFM Cap., of Philadelphia
• Bishop Blase J. Cupich of Spokane, Washington
• Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston
• Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles
• Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky
• Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore
• Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr of Cincinnati
• Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron of Detroit
• Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski of Miami
A lot of good names on the list. I’m not completely familiar with all of them. Obviously, Archbishop Chaput and Lori jump out at me. You guys rooting for anyone in particular?

+Kurtz would be awesome. He lead the Bishops' efforts on marriage.

Cardinal DiNardo celebrated my great uncle's funeral Mass in August. He was so kind and wonderful to my family. My youngest son received a special blessing from him, and we now joke that he will be the newest priest in our family.

That is a good list 🙂

Great list, but it's customary that they elect the current Vice-President who is Kurtz. It was unprecedented that they passed over Bishop Kacanis for Cardinal
Dolan last time.

Chaput and Lori were also the 2 that jumped out at me.

No thank to DiNardo. Lori would be a strong choice.

I admire both Apbs Chaput and Lori tremendously. Both are used to the public spotlight and either would do a great job. Kudos to Cardinal Dolan for his service.

Oh, and I also like Abp Vigneron – a very straightforward pro-life bishop who prays with his people at abortion clinics!

Wenski, hands down.
Vigneron has been absolutely unjust to Michael Voris and his apostolate in the most underhanded ways.

Abp Lori!!
(What a relief that Dolan will be gone, a smack in the face to all women, he is.)

Yes, as a life-long Philadelphia Catholic, I'm hoping for Chaput. Then he'll be able to spend less time in Harrisburg blocking key legislative reform proposals on the statute of limitations for child sexual abuse. Between closing schools and parishes, rebranding our seminary, selling real estate and leasing our cemeteries, how will our archbishop ever secure the "red chapeau" is he isn't elected President of the USCCB? We're not going let these ongoing civil and criminal clergy trials stop us.
