A man is suing two Bible publishing houses, claiming their versions of the Bible that refer to homosexuality as a sin violates his constitutional rights and have caused him emotional pain and mental instability, says The Grand Rapids Press.
Bradley LaShawn Fowler, 39, is seeking $60 million from Zondervan and $10 million from Thomas Nelson Publishing in the lawsuits filed in U.S. District Court.
Fowler alleges Zondervan’s Bibles referring to homosexuality as a sin have made him an outcast from his family and contributed to physical discomfort and periods of “demoralization, chaos and bewilderment.”
Fowler says the clear intent of the publisher was to design a religious, sacred document to reflect an individual opinion or a group’s conclusion to cause “me or anyone who is a homosexual to endure verbal abuse, discrimination, episodes of hate, and physical violence … including murder,” Fowler wrote.
I guess promulgating the word of God was secondary to causing this one man pain, chaos and bewilderment.
You have to admit, somehwere in your mind you knew this kind of lawsuit was an inevitability, right?
But honestly, I think he’d be better off suing God directly. The guys who wrote the Bible were just quoting burning bushes, tablets, and the Messiah. It’s not their fault.
Now, if I were going to sue someone it would be Eve. She ruined everything.

Matthew, Eve didn’t ruin it by herself. We wouldn’t have lost paradise if Adam hadn’t eaten too. 🙂

Interesting how well this story dovetails with the quote from Dean Koontz that shows up in the banner: “Human beings can always be relied upon to exert, with vigor, their God-given right to be stupid.”

The distressed victim is suing Protestant publishing houses, not Catholic ones. Clearly a post-Henrican viewpoint.

Not to be uncharitable BUT Methinks the pain and mental instability was a pre-existing condition.

A good judge would slap this dipstick with a contempt charge and all the legal fees and court costs for filing such a stupid suit.

Amy,
your attempts to widen the blame to all genders is sad and demeaning 😉
Every man knows it was Eve’s fault. The man was cajoled, needled, and pushed into it.
Eve listened to a snake. Who listens to a snake?

Does this mean I can sue the makers of gender inclusive bibles?

Does this mean we can sue the publishers of the q’uran? It seems to be much more effective at inciting murder and mayhem than the Christian Bible.

Then how many people should we as Catholics sue for causing emotional distress and/or “physical discomfort”? This suit is a waste of the court’s time and money. There should be some law about stupid lawsuits.

Remember men. . . Adam was to guard the garden so the serpent couldn’t get in 🙂

I think the lawyers would have a heart attack if they saw the list.;)

I’m suing the New York Times and the National Catholic Reporter, both of which have been causing me emotional distress, and making me feel bad about myself, for years. I want the entire editorial staff of both newspapers guillotined. Nothing personal. Its the principle.
