This is nothing short of madness. White hoods? Really?
So just so I’m clear, congressmen aren’t allowed to call someone a “liar” but “racist” is still very much in play?
This is going to be a long three years.

He makes a rather incredible logical leap from "you lie!" to white hoods. Not surprisingly, he doesn't bother to explain how he gets from one to the other.
It's like everyone's favorite game anymore is seeing how quickly any criticism of the President can be labeled racism.

The problem apparently wasn't the fact that Wilson called Obama a liar, but the setting in which it was done.
Congress and the President were playing at a "formal event" with behavioral guidelines, and when Wilson violated those guidelines, the childish Democrats got upset and cried to mommy.
How dare Wilson interrupt the Democrats pretending to be adults!

Rep. Wilson was a staffer for United States Senator Strom Thurmond of South Carolina (a segregationist to the end). This is the only strand I can see for calling Rep. Wilson a racist.
Yes, Obama lies through both sides of his mouth; why can't someone say that he does so? Didn't the founding fathers of the US also have heated and harsh words for each other during the US' founding years? Civil debate needs a little more openness to harsh words at inconvenient times and places, especially if the words of debate are not clear and transparent (keeping in mind not to shut someone down or drown the other person out).

I don't know, maybe we should stop all this incivility in Congress… and hammer it out with canes like they did in the old days.

Oh, for crying out loud! This is so stupid. They don't have enough to do but debate "disapproval". Geez!
Racism? I've experienced racism. Being called a liar is not racially motivated. He is lying. Rep. Wilson should not have done it then, but I'm sure he was so annoyed he couldn't help himself.

This is just moronic. Like I said on the other thread, racism is very much alive and well here in the US. And people like Johnson are not only fueling it, but like the little boy who cried wolf, distorting reality to the point where there is simply not going to be any room for rational dialogue between two people of different ethnicities, religions or cultures.
This is exactly what happened in the UK and France.

This is racism: all those in the culture of death in which Obama and his friends very much belong because they support Black Genocide.

This is a weak, illogical defence but one they can count on to stir the chamberpot. You know, I bet Hank Johnson doesn't like Alan Keyes. Keyes is black. Therefore, Hank Johnson must dislike him because he's black– it could not have anything to do with his policies.

One of my favorite quotes about DC, courtesy of Molly Ivins:
If all of our Congressmen were smart, honest, and hardworking, they just wouldn't be very representative, would they?
