Remember when abstinence was unrealistic. Well that was before Obama. Now liberals are all for it. But only for punishing conservatives.
The Rock the Vote campaign is encouraging young people to abstain from sex with anyone who’s against healthcare reform. Noel Sheppard writes:
The political advocacy group “Rock the Vote” has a new video out encouraging young people to abstain from having sex with folks opposed to healthcare reform.
Sadly, this isn’t your run of the mill call for celibacy, for the video also instructs youth to use sex to get people to change their minds on this issue.
The group’s YouTube posting asks: “What would you withhold from someone who opposes health care reform? Cookies, a Christmas gift, sex?”
Ironically, Obama doesn’t support abstinence funding. But maybe he’ll change his mind now. Something tells me that seeing his supporters using sex as a weapon, he’ll find the first weapon he actually likes.
But in short, here’s the important nugget: abstinence is unrealistic if you want to live your life worshiping God but realistic if you live your life worshiping Obama.

After waking up this morning to hear the morning DJ talk about how people who remain virgins until they're married are "freaks" (their exact word) and now reading this, I'm convinced that many (maybe most) people view sex as no different from any other activity. I'm not even sure Rock the Vote realizes they're doing anything controversial – I wouldn't be surprised if they really see having sex with someone as no different than baking them cookies. Don't get me wrong, there are people who know what sex is and are purposely trying to undermine it because of that. But the majority have been duped into this nefarious agenda and don't even realize it.
Mary, Queen of Virgins, pray for us.

Lovely.
And I think Brian is right.

Hmm. The nugget also implies have sex with EVERYONE who's FOR healthcare reform.

Nothing new, here. I've known women who have used sex as a tool for manipulating their husbands or boyfriends–or as a weapon to punish them for their offenses (real or perceived). Considering Obama's readiness to devalue human life and marriage, it's not surprising he'd be on board with using sex as a weapon or a tool to achieve his ends–whether political or personal (or both).
And anyone who still believes that God's grace makes it possible to obey Him in every respect is a freak in this world. It's actually a blessing to be reminded of this at almost every turn, since we aren't allowed to forget how countercultural orthodoxy really is.

I don't think they would consider this abstenance. They're not saying "don't have sex with anyone" but "don't have sex with that person." Since sex is a necessity the *obvious* meaning is to tell your partner that you will be having sex with other random people until he changes his mind.

You know, the fact that people are advertising sex as a tool for manipulation only further highlights the wisdom of God's plan for human sexuality.

Conversely, people with the appropriate attitudes toward health care should be rewarded with more sex. But, wait… have you taken a good look at your average liberal in America these days? The men look like chicks and the women look like dudes, so good luck with that. Yikes.
Here's the bright side: when liberals perpetrate their sexuality on others less, the number of social diseases is going to drop through the floor. So, I guess I vote YES to this social experiment. Sign me up for less sex with socialists!

1. Rock the vote is stupid and I doubt many liberals are following this silly idea.
2. It is possible to think that abstaining is a good thing for some people (like teens), but also realize that not all people will oblige and therefore make sure that if they do choose to have sex that they know the risks associated with it and protections that they can take. Many kids do not listen to everything that adults tell them and we can't be with our 16 year olds 100% of the time. Most liberals would love for our teenage children and other teens to abstain from sex – but we're also realistic about the inability to control their actions.
I just think that we would do much better if we attempted to understand each others views – rather than just assume the other side is pure evil and take examples like rock the vote's silly plan to describe half the country.
and this comment: "The men look like chicks and the women look like dudes" – this type of thing really helps the other side see your point. But maybe division is the goal of this website.

Annon,
What about alchohol or drugs do you expect teens to restrict their behavior in those situations, or do you offer safe ways to engage in that behavior?
The whole inibility to control oneself is a lowest common denominator arguement. The better thing is to expect the best behavior in the first place. We expect people to control their emotions and random urges all the time. You cannot hall off and hit someone because you feel like it. Self control is an important lesson that should be taught early and reinforced over childhood.

What they don't get, is those who are thoughtful people about health care, wouldn't consider not having relationshions with such people a punishment but rather, a given.

sorry about the typos. Hate them!

It will all fall.
December 21, 2009 at 8:12 pm
You know, in any other context, withholding sex is a tool of power and control over the other person in the relationship.
But I guess it's okay if it's for the "right" cause. Hypocrites.

Does this mean if we support the health care bill we're screwed?

They don't get it. They won't get it. We'll just have to connect the dots, pull out the fat Crayolas and color in the picture so they can finally make sense of it.
"We don’t need more church leaders to betray their teaching authority by pleading for cautious sinning. We need more church leaders to grow a backbone. We need to stop offering the false promise of sex without consequences. We need to stop giving people permission to exercise poor sexual judgment. We need more church leaders to teach … not beg, not opine, not mention. Anything less is a betrayal of Christ."

It would be a good thing if this served as a wakeup call to the few opponents of socialized medicine who have been sleeping with the Rock the Vote people and their fans.
Of course the irony is thick, almost as thick as the argument of ultra-feminists proponents of socialized medicine that "It's my body. I can do what I want with it." is suddenly irresponsible when it means getting fat on M&Ms, even though it was an eternal, existential truth when it meant abortion was o.k.
