Everyone talks about equality. But equality only exists in the eyes of God and is, after all, a rather Christian concept. We are all loved by God and in that is our worth. Ironically, many politicians are marginalizing religion from the public sphere in the name of equality. And many see the major obstacle to this enforced equality as Christianity.

DC'S Local Politics are inane.
This measure of theirs, in classic fashion, will come back to bite them somehow.
The town is governed by a passel of folks who never learned of such a thing as unintended consequence. It is mete and just (translation coming soon!) that there is congressional oversight over much of what they do. But there is not congressional oversight over all that they do, and it is in these narrow categories that the city council and mayor like to strut their bone fide idiocy for all The Nation to see.
What's unfortunate is that the office of the Archbishop of Washington can also be used as a bully pulpit, but the current occupant won't climb the stairs. It's lonely up there.
Instead of quitting, why not take the hard scrabbel path: announce the Church's withdrawal from any association with the District government, establish a parallel, Catholic adoption infrastucture and tell them all that it is necessary for the Church to perfom this vital Life-related act of charity, it has always done so from time immemorial, and that continuing to do so in partnership with the District is no longer possible because of its leadership's lamentable and a-moral decision.
A lot of lawyers would get very busy all of a sudden, but while they were slogging it out the people would flock to the Church for adoptions setting the District's pathetic system aside.
We need episcopal imagination to combat evil. The Enemey is wily and sly.

Didn't they just partner up with another group, instead of the city?
