Hey GOP! Here’s a brilliant idea. Stop ambling into enemy territory expecting to be treated like a friend. In short, stop trusting MSNBC. They’re not interested in interviewing you. They want to destroy you. To them, you are the enemy.
Can anyone have missed that this network has gone completely left wing looney tunes. First, Michelle Bachmann goes on Chris Matthews show and almost loses her reelection because of it. Remember this:
And the media played that up like Bachmann was forming modern day HUAC’s and going all Wicker Man on colleagues she deemed un-American.
Bachmann survived but only after a major scare.
But after seeing what happened to Bachmann it’s incredible to me that Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul appears on Rachel Maddow’s show. And when pressed by Maddow, he actually talks about sections of the Civil Rights Act which he was against, not based on any racism of his but because of his libertarianism. But he should know the headline won’t be some nuanced treatise on federalism or individual property rights. It’ll be “Rand Paul is against the Civil Right Act!!!” And you know how people read that? Rand Paul hates black people.
Here’s a snippet of painful video of Paul digging his hole deeper and deeper.
But besides dissecting his argument which is not easily sellable to the public the real question is ‘Why the heck was he even there?’ What’s to be gained? Nobody watches MSNBC. And anyone who does isn’t going to vote for a Republican unless they receive an emergency lobotomy reversal before November.
So the only way it can effect your candidacy is to hurt it by being played on networks that people actually watch like Fox News or shows like Good Morning America which both featured this Rand Paul debacle at length.
Paul is now appearing everywhere trying to explain himself. And he’s talking and talking and talking about it like Trent Lott did after saying something that only idiots would take as racist. How’d he end up?
Rand Paul just gave his opponent his attack ad. Now Paul is likely going to have to spend something like $1 million in ads to explain this debacle away. That’s a lot of money to be on defense with. And you don’t win when you’re on defense.
So GOP, please stop going on MSNBC. They’re not journalists. They want to hurt you. And they can hurt you. Don’t return their calls. Walk past them in the hallways. Ignore them. They can only hurt you if you engage them. Don’t.

Just like what they did to Bishop Tobin. MSNBC is a propaganda arm of the Socialist party. To expect objectivity and fairness from them is like expecting Obama to be pro-life.

You are encouraging these people to be cowards. They are our political representatives. I would hope their political beliefs are strong enough and well-informed enough that they can defend them even against a hostile interviewer. If a liberal refused to come on fox news I'm sure you would rightly say they were a coward and couldn't defend their beliefs.
In both of these interviews nothing is taken out of context. Bachmann herself says that she thinks we should investigate the beliefs of congressmen to see if they are anti-American. Paul says he opposes portions of the civil rights act. Of course it would be a mischaracterization if the media said that it was because he is a racist rather than other reasons. But its not unfair that the average American finds it rather offensive that he would be against the measure. Paul has the burden of explaining an why he has taken such a radical position. If he can't adequately defend it he doesn't deserve our trust and support.

Anthony, what you're saying would be true if most voters actually bothered to get their information independent of bias & rumor. They don't and that holds true for BOTH sides of the political aisle.
Here's something you might try in way of verifying my point; The next time someone starts speaking for or against the recently ennacted law in Arizona dealing with illegal aliens, ask them if they've read the legislation.
The only way you'll get news that is "balanced" is to buy a newspaper and put it on your bathroom scales.
EVERYBODY has an agenda to push and when someone enters the camp of the enemy they should expect to get their head handed to them. The stupid shall be punished.

I think it's prudence rather than cowardice. There are very few circumstances under which one is obliged to voluntarily walk into the lion's den…

Rand Paul announced his candidacy for the KY seat on the Rachel Maddow show in May, 2009.
Here is what he said at the time:
"Some will note that the announcement was on a network not always seen as friendly to Republicans. I would argue that bringing our message to those who do not yet align themselves as Republicans is precisely how we grow as party. I think we don't have to moderate our message but rather believe in and articulate our message clearly."

He articulated his message clearly enough.

Oh, and of course he's an anti-government libertarian except when it affects his medical practice:
"In fact, Paul — who says 50% of his patients are on Medicare — wants to end cuts to physician payments under a program now in place called the sustained growth rate, or SGR. “Physicians should be allowed to make a comfortable living,” he told a gathering of neighbors in the back yard of Chris and Linda Wakild, just behind the 10th hole of a golf course."

Doesn't Rand know better than to be quoted in the bleeding heart liberal Wall Street Journal?

You're a true Conservative, Anthony, believing in courage, clarity, and expecting people to do their research.
But we just ended an election cycle where SNL played a major factor. I strongly believe in working and debating, but that's just not a reality in the highest circles right now.
