The most liberal show on television just got more liberal. The “conservative” co-host said in an interview that sure she thinks abortion is killing a human but that doesn’t mean it should be illegal. Yahoo reports:
Hasselbeck, who campaigned with Sarah Palin in ’08, insists that she’s been misunderstood, saying in a recent interview that she regards President Barack Obama as an “incredibly cool guy” and parts company with conservative culture warriors on the charged issues of gay marriage and abortion rights. On the latter front, she says she’s “torn”; she offers fairly unequivocal support on the controversial question of same-sex unions.
In an interview with Fancast’s Adam Buckman, Hasselbeck insists she’s not “ultra-ultra-conservative on every issue.” “I actually support gay marriage,” she says, an admission that puts her to the left of Obama.
As for abortion, Hasselbeck confirms she believes that life begins at conception but also says she doesn’t think the government should tell women what to do with their bodies. “I’m torn there in terms of supporting laws” for or against abortion, she says. “I always say I would rather a change in heart than a law.”
The want (even need) to be liked is a dangerous thing.
I can’t stand when people say that when it comes to abortion they’d rather change a heart than the law. I always wonder, can’t we do both?

Well, she *did* go to BC. I'm surprised she graduated from there professing to be pro-life and pro-traditional marriage… So now she's a "fiscal conservative"?

To be fair, that neckline is almost a daily thing with Mrs. Hesselback, so there probably weren't any pictures of her that were less revealing.

The photo should have been cropped, making it more appropriate for a Catholic website.

I don't understand how people say they are "pro-life" when also "pro-gay marriage". There is no possibility of life's generation within such a union.
Also, I don't know how McCain calls himself "pro-life" when he is for gov't funded embryonic stem cell research.
Finally, I don't know how we call ourselves- as conservative Catholics- "pro-life" when we support all these American foreign aggressive wars. According to the popes, they are unjust. According to our Founding Fathers, they are military adventurism and unjust interventionism and the cause of BIG GOV'T. But, as long as its a Republican war, we support it…?
Peace be with your spirits!

I know that this woman is on a television show where other women talk to each other, and that the show is carried on one of the major networks. The next time I watch it will be my first one and that will possibly never happen unless it is forced on me as a punishment for some grave crime committed.
My question to you all who seem to know of her is simply why what she or anyone else on that show says or thinks matters?
This world is a very strange place when stupidity and vacuousness are given weight, attention and respect; and I do not confine the boundaries of my remarks to dear Mrs. Hasselbeck and her circle of friends.

I have no use for her anyway. She is an anti-Catholic bigot. I can't believe the viciousness and the vapidity of those women are given a forum on television. Julie

Kathy, Thanks, It is very difficult, but we have to support each other. It is very hard that you can't tell your "friends" about your day. How am I supposed to call my "friends" and tell them that yesterday I Read the Litany of The Blessed Virgin before Benediction and Eucharistic Adoration? Its NYC, We could tell them a myriad of mortal sins and they would love us. I need new pals now too so If you'd like to get a cup of tea…

Beautiful eyes…. 😉
Still, the attractive lady forgets that the best way to change the hearts is….. to change the law. The laws of one generation are the morality of the following one. If abortion were banned, the coming generations wouldn't have any problem to see it for what it is: murder.

Ms. Hasselbeck is a mental flyweight who the producers of "The View" pass off as a conservative. It's actually pretty smart on their part. They wouldn't dare have a real, thinking conservative on the show. Note how Laura Ingraham skewered the mascot of "glittering jewels of colossal ignorance", Joy Behar on the show a few weeks ago.

Bingo on Laura- She would eat them for lunch. Elizabeth is a PCC "Polite company conservative"
August 26, 2010 at 3:51 pm
The Church condoned slavery and segregation for decades claiming it was better to 'change a heart'
Careful of that plank obscuring your sight

David – I'm with you there. Laura Ingram has been my champion since she converted to Catholicism. We need more real Catholics like her.
Joy – do you really know what you are talking about? Doesn't sound like it. The church condemned racial slavery since it was first attempted by Spain in the Canary Islands back in the 15th century.
A little education there maybe?
August 26, 2010 at 9:28 pm
A bit of education:
"The Catholic Church in America had long ties in slaveholding Maryland and Louisiana. Despite a firm stand for the spiritual equality of black people, and the resounding condemnation of slavery by Pope Gregory XVI in his bull In Supremo Apostolatus issued in 1839, the American church continued in deeds, if not in public discourse, to support slaveholding interests. The Bishop of New York denounced O'Connell's petition as a forgery, and if genuine, an unwarranted foreign interference. The Bishop of Charleston declared that, while Catholic tradition opposed slave trading, it had nothing against slavery. No American bishop supported abolition before the Civil War. While the war went on, they continued to allow slave-owners to take communion."

Joy – the magesterium IS the church. There are always errant bishops and clergy. We see that today. They do not represent the church when they contradict the authority of the Pope.
This is Catholicism 101. If you go against Christ, you cannot be a Christian. If you go against the Pope on matters of faith and morals, you cannot be a Catholic.
August 26, 2010 at 11:22 pm
Joy = ignorant bigot. Educate yourself please.
Hasselbeck = bimbo in word and dress, currying favor with the world through both.

Ben, tea sounds great. Too bad I'm in N.C. But, lets have a virtual cup of tea, and be glad for a friend of like mind who you can just be yourself with. God bless…
August 27, 2010 at 2:38 am
@Early Riser
Christ wasn't right about everything. And clearly the Pope doesn't have a clue about many issues including the molestation of children. If you believe the pope then molestation is good, but it isn't.
But I''l agree Joy is a dushbag and Hasselbeck is a C… with a capital C. The woman should be sentence to death based on what they preach!!!
August 27, 2010 at 1:22 pm
Thanks Kathy 🙂
In NYC you don't convert to Catholicism to win a popularity contest, that's for sure. When People in NYC find out you are Catholic they either run, make a gay priest/pope comment/ say "I went to Catholic School" Followed by some anti Catholic comment, or say, "So am I! but you don't really believe all that catholic-y stuff?", ha ha, nudge nudge. Elizabeth is under a constant barrage in the entertainment biz, and we should pray for her strength and for her Moral Courage, not call her names or disparage her. She is a lady and should be treated as one.

Ben,well stated.
