Now, this is depressing. Not surprising. But definitely depressing. I just got this video from the Cardinal Newman Society concering Georgetown University. And it’s a doozy. And here’s the thing -this is what Georgetown is publicly espousing. I can’t imagine what it is they’re not saying.
Georgetown’s Associate Dean Fr. Ryan Maher, S.J. said it’s not Georgetown’s job to bring God to people or to bring people to God.
“Our job as educators and as priests is not to bring God to people, or even to bring people to God. God’s already there and the people are already there. Our job, our way, of living out our educational vocation is to ask the right questions, and to help young people ask those questions,” says Fr. Ryan Maher, S.J., Georgetown’s associate dean and director of Catholic studies, in the opening to a new video profiling the work of Jesuits on campus.

Once again the question must be asked whether Georgetown is a Catholic university at all or a university where some Jesuits teach? It’s sad that there’s a distinction but sometimes there just is.
Check out the Cardinal Newman Society for more on this video.

WHAT!!! I do confess- when I lived in Slovakia, my friends went to the Jesuit church in town. I was shocked that my good Catholic friends would bother with them. Then I was shocked that the Mass was orthodox and proper and had about 8 altar boys. When Jesuits are good, they are very, very good- when they are bad, they are…..

So if I'm directed to ask a question about God, would they then not help me answer my question because it's not their job to bring people closer to God?
But wait, as a priest, don't they LITERALLY bring God to people when they celebrate the Mass and distribute Communion?

Oh, my GOD!!! St. Ignatius pray for us. These jesuit people are stupid.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for life. (@Snyder: They will provide the tools and provide initial guidance.)
Desiring and seeking the truth by oneself with sincerity will lead to God Who is there all the while for He is the Truth.
Without compulsion, Muslims will discover the inadequacy, imperfection and even evil in their cult then find the Truth Who is Christ.
Similarily, Christians will go beyond the "just believe" level then internalize and personalize the faith enough to live it and even die for it amid torture and death of loved ones and eventually oneself.
So, it may not be bad as it appears or sounds. Then again, it is an ideal. How practical this is remains to be seen.

I studied in Jesuit High School in Brazil, called Colégio Santo Inacio (St. Ignatius High School). Today, I am really sad seeing this stupid video, because I learned how Jesuit were important to defend Christianity around the world since the Reformation. They are abjuring their religion, in favour of one Saint Diversity. Oh my God!

I feel like a hapless Israelite in the desert … when will this generation pass away so I can move on?

I hear this attitude in campus ministries throughout the country. We are supposed to get the kids to "ask questions". I don't have a problem with that – as long as they also help them find THE Truth: Jesus Christ.
The issue with the Jesuits at GU and others who are of their mindset is that the questioning is enough. The answers don't matter.
But, Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. He isn't just a question.

This sure explains the empty pews doesn't it.
Do we really want the Jesuits to be giving out false information that could potentially misguide Catholic students for the rest of their lives?
Maybe its a blessing in disguise.

Well, It's GEORGETOWN. Clearly his purpose is to bring more people to BASKETBALL.
(True story #1 – My husband went on a tour of Georgetown when he was looking at schools, and was proudly told "This isn't a Catholic School! It's a Jesuit School!"
True story #2 – In college, I had a friend who was a recent convert and really, really wanted to be a Jesuit. (The Jesuits at the University of Chicago were a really good bunch… and they DID seem to try to bring people to God. And succeeded.) So, over winter break I went down to Georgetown to look for a T-shirt that said "Jesuit" on it somewhere. Nothing related to the Jesuits ANYWHERE IN THE BOOKSTORE. So I asked one of the perky campus guide types if they had anything, and the conversation went like this:
Her: What's a Jesuit.
Me: They're an order of priests. They run this school.
Her: There are priests at this school?
Me: Yes. It's a Catholic School.
Her: You're kidding me!

As far as I can tell, the sole reason for the existance of Georgetown is the Hoyas.

Any Catholic parent is under mandate to protect the souls of his children and to lead them to Heaven. It is therefore irresponsible to allow any jesuit within a mile of your kids. The jesuits will destroy their faith and thereby endanger their souls (and yours). Anyone who needs more evidence of that hasn't been paying enough attention.

Anon- try this blog for Jesuits of a more Orthodox stripe:

No thanks, Deirdre. I've seen enough out of the jesuits. They are DANGEROUS. Stay away from them and keep young minds away from them.

Why is ANYONE surprised anymore about this latest wack job comment from a Jesuit? As the great former Jesuit Fr. Malachi Martin pointed out, the Jesuit order long ago embraced communism as their creed.
January 23, 2011 at 9:21 pm
There are many Jesuits that say a lot of inappropriate things, however their are many, many Jesuits young and old that walk with the Church and our Lord. These Jesuits embrace the Spiritual Exercises with two hands, a heart and mind for Christ.

The Jesuits, overwhelmingly have dropped the Catholic ball. Singlehandedly, Loyola University in Southern California, has destroyed the faith of many, many Catholic kids. One of my own sons has not recovered from his exposure there to hetrodox, higher-critism and at least three of my close friends have seen their own Loyola U. kids walk away from their faith. There are some good Jesuits left but the order is dying due to extreme hetrodoxy regarding liberation theology, abortion and homosexuality.

I got my Master's from GU in the 80s. Many profs were good to excellent; two were bitter, ex-seminarians.
Asking the right questions is a fine start; having the rights answers is equally important. I tend to see some real spirit of pride in the manner of the presentation, the words are mostly ok.
Pray to St. Ignatius and Fr. John Hardon, SJ, for the restoration of the order–they will move souls to God–when they wake up.
