You know how libs are always screaming about the separation of church and state in the Constitution? And you know how we always remind them that it’s not actually there. It’s in a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote. And in that letter he was attempting to convince a supporter that he had no intention of making any laws that would restrict the freedom of religion.
But secularists take that quote from Jefferson as the bedrock foundational statement for this republic and use it in the exact opposite manner of its intent.
Well, I wonder why they don’t take this quote from Jefferson on the redistribution of wealth.
“To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.” –Thomas Jefferson
Guess they don’t like that one, huh?
How about this one?
“A wise and frugal government… shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government.”
Yeah, that one was Jefferson too.
Another quote to be ignored by the left as well. Wonder why those didn’t become bedrock foundational statements for the libs.
The belief in the separation of church and state has caused great damage to this country when it’s used as a cudgel to beat religion from the public sphere. And as George Washington said, “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained.”

Please note that Thomas Jefferson believed in the innocence of the man’s soul as he speaks of sin. The ACLU does not, as do not the atheists believe in man’s immortal soul infused when two become one. They cannot explain man’s unalienable rights without our Creator, so they simply dismiss man’s unalienable rights, man’s immortal soul and man’s sovereign personhood. Abortion then becomes nothing more than killing a dog or a cat. But the ACLU refuses to live under the tyranny of the abject subjugation they inflict on humanity and consider and legally demand the rights of citizenship. Consider this, if the ACLU will not recognize the immortal soul of the human being, composed of body and soul, and whose sovereign personhood constitutes our nation from the first moment of his existence, if the ACLU does not admit of a man’s soul, the ACLU cannot and does not by his free will, constitute our nation and cannot have citizenship to sue in a court of law. And this goes for Sebelius and Obama and all the rest of the atheists

Picking and choosing quotes for many at least goes back to the start of the Protestant Reformation with Luther (near start of modernity). Luther threw out James (faith without works is dead; forgot Matthew 25) and much of the Old Testament.
If they (mostly secularists now) don't like a part of the message, it is thrown out.

OR how about this quote from George Washington's farewell address: " And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."
