Senator Rick Santorum yesterday called Obama’s administration “hostile to people of faith, particularly Christians, and specifically Catholics” according to the LA Times.
Good on Rick. Catholics need to beat this drum until this country wakes up. And right now Rick Santorum still has microphones following his every move. I hope it continues because:
1) I want Santorum to win.
2) We need someone pointing out how awful Obama is on religious liberty…and
3) Rick Santorum is the only man in America who still uses the word “poppycock.” And I for one would like to see that word make a comeback.
“That’s just a bunch of poppycock,” Santorum told reporters when asked about White House Press Secretary Jay Carney’s statement that the administration was willing to work with religious groups to address their concerns. “I mean that’s just ridiculous. Mr. President, we’re not that stupid.”…
For Santorum, Carney’s remarks at a White House briefing offered an opening to press his case that Obama administration rules on government-mandated health plans will force the Catholic Church and other religious employers to provide birth control despite moral objections.
Carney said misreporting had led some to overlook an exemption for churches and houses of worship. He also said the administration would work with religious groups to strike a balance between healthcare for women and the religious tenets of their employers, a pledge that Santorum dismissed as bogus.
“The administration saying, ‘Oh, it’s just a misunderstanding,’ is just a bunch of bull,” Santorum said, adding: “Guess what? They do provide some protection for some religious groups — just not Catholics.”
Santorum called Obama’s administration “hostile to people of faith, particularly Christians, and specifically Catholics.”
“I’m not going to stand for it,” he said.
As long as Santorum’s voice is being heard I think it’s a good thing. The Obama administration is terribly anti-Catholic and this needs to be a HUGE issue in this campaign. And I’m just not sure Romney’s got the poppycocks to beat the drum on this issue. He’s mentioned it a few times but something tells me that religion isn’t going to be something Romney’s going to want to talk about a whole lot.
Obama must be stopped. His teeth have been bared. He is seeking to destroy religious liberty in this country because it’ll appeal to his base in an election year. Unless we push back, unless we shout this administration down religious liberty will be lost.
Look at the firestorm Planned Parenthood was able to create when a non-profit decided not to grant them a few hundred thousand bucks.
Currently there’s 5,270 news stories that come up on a Google search using the terms “Komen and Planned Parenthood.” But Google news only shows 285 stories on stories using the search terms “Catholic Church” and “HHS mandate.”
Yup. That’s us getting our you know whats handed to us. The media is not going to help us out with this issue. We’re on our own. We must do everything we can to reclaim our religious liberty in this election. So much is at stake and it’s an uphill battle. And we have few allies. We must fight this battle.
We’ve got raise such poppycock that the media can’t help but notice us. We must continue blogging about this. Tell your friends. Heck, tell your enemies. Much is at stake and we must promulgate the message that WE WILL NOT COMPLY.

We will not comply.

The sad thing is: though the percentage will drop from 2008, Obama will still get nearly half the Catholic vote in November.
When you go to mass on Sunday, no matter how traditional your parish, you'll stand near folks who somehow conclude that this hollow man deserves reelection.
February 7, 2012 at 12:17 pm
you keep using that word. i do not think it means what you think it means.

"When you go to mass on Sunday,…you'll stand near folks who somehow conclude that this hollow man deserves reelection."
I'm not so certain. The much ballyhooed high percentage of "Catholics" who voted for Obama includes those who identify themselves as Catholic but have little real affiliation with the Church. I'm thinking specifically of those like my wife's ex employer who called herself "Catholic", favored "reproductive freedom" and women priests and felt "only a handful of little old ladies in any parish still pray the rosary". In other words; a CINO.
Their self identification vastly inflated the reported support of Obama from the Faithful.
In the ongoing fallout from the HHS mandate I doubt they'll make their voices heard on either side. It would require more backbone than many can muster.

Hey, I still use the word poppycock! AND I voted for Santorum today in Missouri. Go Santorum!
February 7, 2012 at 4:32 pm
Thank you, Kid Limo! You give me hope! Go, Rick.

When I see the same passion against the death penalty and against wars of choice, then you will have credibility in this argument.
Using CINO is an interesting choice… as that describes the heresy on this website.

To Anonymous at 11:54 AM: Please be charitable. Throwing out the word 'heresy' when you don't even know peoples' opinions on the death penalty and war is not helpful and does not contribute to the discussion.

Anonymous @ 11:54 AM, and who are you that your declarations carry any weight?
February 7, 2012 at 8:32 pm
@Anonymous: Get yourself a Catechism of the Catholic Church and read it. Next to the Bible, the Catechism has the most beautiful language and reason, common sense and wisdom. Obama is against the human being having any freedom, any liberty and exercising any human rights. Obama has trampled upon our founding principles: the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. Why does not he understand the basic principles of good government except that he chooses not to. Obama makes war against freedom, to enslave people as property. Obama has already taken power to seize all private property and clap people in jail indefinitely without charges. Once a person is incarcerated it may be too late to petition the government for redress.

I describe heresy as the picking and choosing of what life the backers of this website choose to be "pro"
This site backs Santorum, who clearly supports the death penalty and wars of choice… in clear violation of church doctrine and Catechism.
This site supports Gingrich, a twice divorced convert who supports the death penalty and wars of choice…
CINO… I'm just saying…

@11:39: Capital punishment is temporal punishment for capital one murder and not forbidden by Catholic teaching. Read the Cathechism. Sorry. Heresy is the word used to define twisting and deforming the truth as found in the Magisterial teaching of the infallible church. If truth is a lie, then, truth cannot be truth. Truth must be true or it is a lie and heresy.
February 8, 2012 at 8:56 pm
So JP2 and Benedict 16 are wrong when they speak out against capital punishment…
Ok…

@ ApeTooStupidToSignAName 3:56 pm: no, they merely are not defining dogma. They may be right, or they may be wrong—but they cannot combine the assent of Catholics either way. Since—maybe crack the catechism?—the Church doesn't hold war or the death penalty to be intrinsically evil, nobody's opinion—whether Santorum's, yours, or the Pope's—is, or can be, Catholic teaching, or heretical.
See, the Popes believe—and, by the way, in direct contradiction to all non-European evidence—that the death penalty is currently unnecessary. Unfortunately, "whether it's necessary" is not a question of faith or morals (the sole areas where Popes have divine authority), but of facts—and, being elderly European intellectuals with no background in criminology, and who have never heard of prison gangs like the Mexican Mafia or The Brand (formerly the Aryan Brotherhood), neither Pope has much human authority on the matter, either.
But, of course, I understand why you want to try and use the Church's authority as a club to beat people who disagree with you. Actually coming up with an argument for your position, especially given that more murders happen in our prisons than out of them, is hard even for people who know how to sign their combox comments.
February 9, 2012 at 2:43 am
D'oh. The Popes cannot command the assent of Catholics, on the death penalty.
