Today, a House committee heard testimony from religious leaders on the HHS mandate. And bills are active in the House and Senate defending Christians from the contraceptive mandate. And I even saw a political ad on this issue today.
I’d love to see more of ads like this one because it would mean Republicans are committed to defending religious liberty.
But I’m savvy enough to know that this political fight will only continue as long as its politically advantageous for the GOP to fight this fight. That’s up to us to make it politically advantageous.
We’re going to keep seeing polling like this one saying that it’s a dog of an issue and that people are on Obama’s side. Gateway Pundit tells us not to believe the poll but once Republicans see enough of these they will walk away from this all important issue.
We have to keep this battle in the forefront of the public’s mind. We must continue expressing that this fight is about religious liberty and not just about contraception. The Democrats and the media are going to focus exclusively on women’s right to contraception but we must counter that at every turn. We must convince our fellow Catholics that this is a paramount issue. And we must keep talking about it, blogging about it, and shouting about it.
We cannot depend on the courts overruling this. I’ve heard it said many times that the HHS mandate will definitely be overturned by the court. I don’t trust the court on anything. You never know how things will turn out. This fight is ours. We must fight as if everything depends on us. Because it does.
