Sigh. I ask, what is the point of having a Canon 915?
Cardinal Dolan was back at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and so was Joe Biden. Look at the commentary below from the Daily News. Isn’t this the very definition of scandal?
Among the faithful packing the pews was Vice President Biden along with his wife, Jill.
Biden received communion, despite his support for abortion rights.
Unlike his predecessor, Dolan does give communion to Catholics who stray from church dogma on abortion policy, saying he prefers to persuade them in discussion rather deny them the Eucharist.
Dolan and Biden had coffee after the service, though neither addressed the press.

*sigh* I really want to like Cdl Dolan, considering he is the Metropolitan for my diocese, but, then he goes and does this kind of thing.
The only thing that is going to get Biden's (and add in Pelosi and Sebilius) is an old fashion "book, bell, and candle" kind of excommunication:

Glad C. Dolan was not elected Pope! He carries a lot of weight but seemingly no backbone.
Would be surprised if he continues to stand up to the HHS joke.
Will he go to prison for the faith? Time will tell.

So, did Biden go to confession first?
If so, he would have said his penance, promised to sin no more, and received absolution, and then received communion in a state of grace.
So, do we have a conversion here?
NO, we have confusion.

Everyone ought to read Cardinal Burke's analysis on this issue, which is authoritative, and which can be accessed directly by clicking on Rev Vincent Fitzpatrick's name, supra. Especially the fourth last paragraph.

Agree with comments – this is scandal. So disappointed with Cardinal Dolan.

Are the babies laughing, Cardinal Dolan?

Too bad — just another Democratic Party pet clergyperson, leashed and obedient.

Hey, anybody remember the good old days when all the smarty-pants "A-list" Catholic bloggers were all hot to trot over Dolan being our next pope? Whatever happened to all those intellectual giants, anyway? I imagine they feel pretty foolish right now. It's not hard to imagine because they also LOOK foolish. This isn't anything that most faithful Catholic couldn't see coming a mile away.
Okay, that's done. We can all go back now to being outraged over an poor old man in a white cassock and two hip replacements ditching a fancy chair for a more comfortable one.

Cardinal Dolan is very disappointing in this area. He gives cover to the progressive politicians in the State. Example, our "Catholic" Governor pushed a Gay Marriage bill into law. Many "Catholic" Politicians went a long with it because their "Catholic" faith gave them no choice (huh?). Neither before, during, or after the vote was there any solid guidance from Cardinal Dolan. There wasn't any condemnation of the Governor or the politicians who voted in favor of the law. The same is going on with the current bill the Governor has proposed to make legal abortion legal practically until birth. Will the Cardinal do anything.
Which makes the question Brian's question about the babies so relevant. Forgive me Cardinal there is nothing to laugh about in any of this.

If you want more info on the Scandal as well as past problematic actions of Cardinal Dolan go check out The Vortex on ChurchMilitantTV and you will see from the time he put a Cheesehead hat on at his installation Mass in Wisconsin to the fiasco involving St Francis Xavier Church to the nasty way he treats his own priests for simply wanting to say the Extraordinary Mass, to calling God a She. I am also glad he was not elected Pope.

Dolan's the man that people would hoping would be pope if an American were elevated?
Mmmm kay-ay

What a way to begin Holy Week. That big blow hard delivers over Our Lord to Judas again. Why didn't Cardinal Dolan just go into stand up. He is more than willing to cause scandal and betray the faith again and again.God help us all. A pope who hates being pope and a Cardinal who hated being Catholic.

Cardinal Dolan.
What a disappointment.
John Cardinal O'Connor, pray for us.

Oh, its all been said about these losers. That being the case, that Palm Sunday palm is the biggest, gayest thing I've ever seen in my life. Why not just hang a disco ball of the end of it and get your funk on? Good God.

Frankly, I'm tired of this crap! This is Pope Francis' first test. If he refuses to discipline Dolan (and, for that matter, Wuerl) publicly, then we know nothing has changed.
March 27, 2013 at 2:35 am
For that matter, I'd loovvvve to know what the talking heads at National Catholic Register think about this…especially Simcha Fisher, who asked her audience to give Dolan a break when he invited Obama to the Al Smith Dinner.
With Catholics like these, who needs atheism?
March 27, 2013 at 2:42 am
aquinasadmirer, Steve Dalton makes a valid point. Do you seriously think that Pope Francis wasn't briefed on who the vice president of the United States is??? If not, then that speaks volumes about either the laziness or spiritual apathy of the people advising Pope Francis.
The new Pope had a chance to make a statement. He failed. Then again, if I recall correctly, JPII distributed the Eucharist to pro-abortion members of the Italian parliament. If he didn't, that would have made news.
The incident with Biden also speaks to a far graver problem: Catholics taking the Eucharist for granted, despite the theology surrouding it. Too many Catholics look like chassis about to receive engine fittings on an assembly line when they go to receive.

At the end of the day, all this hatred and name calling isn't helping anything.
You are all correct, but prayers will do a lot more good then all this bashing ever will.

Regarding Canon 915 – please see: "APOSTOLIC CONSTITUTION SACRAE DISCIPLINAE LEGES of the SUPREME PONTIFF POPE JOHN PAUL II for the PROMULGATION of the NEW CODE OF CANON LAW" on the Vatican web site. It contains the following sentence. "Finally, the canonical laws by their very nature must be observed."
Note the word “MUST”.
Any Cardinal, Bishop or Priest who KNOWINGLY gives Holy Communion to a public heretic or schismatic – is being disobedient to the Magisterium. In addition they are aiding and abetting in Scandal and Sacrilege.
(In addition to Canon # 915, please see Code # 1399.)

I watched the Papal Installation Mass twice, and did not see Pope Francis give Holy Communion to heretics and schismatics Biden or Pelosi.
In addition, approx. 500 Priests from all over the world gave out Holy Communion to the crowd.
It is possible that the person who gave them Communion did not know of their public Scandals.
(We must honestly ask ourselves – do we KNOW the scandals and public mortal sins of each of the politicians from ALL over the World?)
