I’m sure this isn’t a sign or anything. A lucky photographer caught the image at the perfect moment when lightning struck the Christ the Redeemer Statue.
It reminds me of the time lightning struck the Vatican on February 11, 2013 on the day that Pope Benedict XVI said that “with full freedom I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome.”
But nothing happened after that so I’m sure we’re fine. Yeah. Totally fine, why do you ask? All good here.

Puh-leeze! The statue and the dome of St. Peter’s are the tallest things for miles around, so of course they’re prone to lightning strikes.

It’s not unusual that lightning occasionally strikes the Vatican but the fact that the strike occurred more or less synchronously with Benedict XVI’s resignation announcement imbues the event with Divine import. And didn’t lightning strike twice that night?
Redeemer statue lightning strikes are far too common to be considered noteworthy however, unless they also happen to occur synchronously with major events.

Correct: It isn’t a sign or anything. Or maybe you have gone Protestant, or possibly Muslim, and decided this shows God’s disapproval for religioius statues?
Catholics have no business embracing omens, nor do we have any business propping up weak arguments by trying to use them to persuade others. Faithh and reason should be enough; we don’t need superstition to go along with them.
