Look, I took my grades seriously in college. But the thing is, college is the easy part of life. Life is hard. This story is why we’re in trouble.

Campus Reform:

A dorm display at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst is using Care Bears to help students who feel “grumpy or stressed.”
“Feeling grumpy or stressed? Let the Care Bears help!” the display states above a large, hand-drawn rainbow adorned with bit of advice for students.
“Frankly, I just think it’s ridiculous. The people that live in this dorm are either 20 or 21 years old.” Tweet This

“It’s important to take care of ourselves! Self-care is an active choice and you should treat it as such,” one section proclaims, while other suggest that students “surround yourselves with supportive people” and “reminders of what you love.”
The display also suggests goofing around with friends, making time for fun, eating healthy, and getting enough sleep.

Yes. Let’s keep infantilizing our youth for the low low price of $60,000 per year. Please allow me to drop a little truth bomb on you that will surprise no one. Care Bears and participation trophies are NOT a recipe for raising children to become adults.

The irony here is that we’re treating them like babies but essentially encouraging them to take part in adult behaviors such as drinking and sex. Well, maybe we should pick one. But they want to have adult decision making choices but none of the consequences. It’s essentially a second graders vision of being an adult with all the perks and none of the downside like having a job or being responsible for the care of others.

I sometimes think that my kids have it so easy because they all know the value of hard work and that decisions have consequences. They are prepared for the real world. But then I remember that by the time my kids become adults, the infantalized will be in charge. God help us all.
