Proving that the message of Christmas is lost on everyone, this story is just plain ol’ sad. According to theWashington Post, First Lady Laura Bush asked all members of Congress to pick artists from their districts to decorate ornaments, highlighting local landmarks and heroes. In the ultimate display of egoism Congressman Jim Mcdermott picked an artist who chose to honor…Jim Mcdermott. Who’d a thunk it? The artist glued tiny text that said, “Impeach Bush” on the nine-inch ball thinking no one would actually read it.
But Lawrence shared her secret protest with friends, and the news quickly spread. “An artist doesn’t always get this kind of attention,” she told us. “It took on a life of its own, obviously. In a way, I’m speechless.”
Sally McDonough, a spokeswoman for the first lady, confirmed the ornament would not be displayed. “It’s inappropriate and it’s not being hung,” she said. She said that when asked about the issue yesterday, the White House tree decorations were not complete. “We reviewed the ornament along with all the [other] ornaments, and Mrs. Bush deemed it inappropriate for the holiday tree.”
So here’s the first problem. They’re asking for Christmas ornaments commemorating or highlighting local heroes. Uh guys, this is Christmas. We’re supposed to be commemorating and highlighting the universal hero, Jesus Christ. So that’s tacky to begin with but then these idiots then try to slyly hide some “Impeach Bush” text onto the ornament.
I feel a little like Charlie Brown but does anybody remember the real meaning of Christmas anymore?
