This is the worst good news I’ve heard in a loooong time. The headline reads: “Gene-based diseases decline.”
Woot. Woot. Good news, right? Well….
Chicago Sun Times reports:
Some of mankind’s most devastating inherited diseases appear to be declining, and a few have nearly disappeared, because more people are using genetic testing to decide whether to have children.
Births of babies with cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs and other less-familiar disorders have dropped since testing came into wider use, the Associated Press found from a review of studies and interviews with many geneticists and other experts.
One study in California found that prenatal screening reduced by half the number of babies born with the severest form of cystic fibrosis because many parents chose abortion.
So the good news is that kids being born with genetic defects is way down but infanticide of babies with genetic defects is way up.
Notice what makes the lede and what makes the bottom of the third paragraph.

A chilling commentary…
I have been in contact with my diocese and am still waiting for the latest information on the "March of Dimes". I have always avoided donating to them because of the "search and destroy" methods that they have always supported in raising funds for prenatal testing.
I want the most current information, so that when I am asked, I can share the truth.

"Some of mankind's most devastating inherited diseases appear to be declining, and a few have nearly disappeared, because more people are using genetic testing to decide whether to kill their children or not."
Fixed.

Jennifer, there are lots of websites that insist the March of Dimes supports prenatal diagnosis in order to give parents "options," the majority of which include abortion. An internet search is all you need to find pages like that.
On March of Dimes' own website, the policies and instructions for grants states "Fetal tissue research does not violate this policy if applicable federal regulations are adhered to." So even if they are not directly supporting abortion (which is questionable), they are supporting fetal research which seems to be illicit.

Racial hygiene at its very very worst…

I saw this headline in the newspaper box yesterday and without even reading the article, I almost started crying.

The March of Dimes is terrible. They walk the woman to the abortion mill door and then tell her to make her choice. I haven't seen a grant list lately but a number of years ago many of their grants were going to find better techniques for detecting diseases in utero that had no cure. Now what is the "cure" in cases like that? For extensive information on the March of Dimes go here: http://www.michaelfund.org/index.php?pr=A_MOD_Primer

I know first hand that the March of Dimes funds researchers that publicly state that the only therapeutic application of their research is to help parents to decide to abort their children. The woman who chaired my thesis committee and is funded in part by the MOD said exactly that during a seminar she gave a few years ago. Nevertheless, I didn't realize the situation was as bad as the above comments have indicated.

Let's not waste money on research for a cure of these devastating diseases. Let's just kill the children who have them. Yeah. That makes sense.

I could smell that one coming from a mile away!

I would have genetic testing but would never abort. I'd have it done just so that I could cope better when I hold the little one in my arms. I'd also try to have them test for things I could help to improve like spinal bifita or a heart defect that they could do suregery on in the womb.

What's horrible is that the doctors and nurses treat you like you are a crazy, abusive, idiot if you tell them you don't want genetic counseling. My husband and I are expecting our first and have chosen against any sort of testing that is for the purpose of "genetic counseling". When we told the Ob/Gyn staff, I thought they were about to ask us if we thought the world was flat…
