My two year old went through a phase where she kept taking off her clothes. And when I put clothes on her she would try to take them off. And if she took her clothes off I’d say in my stern adult voice, “Go put some clothes on NOW!”
And that was that. Can you believe this is a debate that adults are having? I hope someone here will act like an adult and tell these fools to put clothes on: Reuters reports:
In a state where men have legally strolled the streets in nothing but tennis shoes and Portland hosts an annual naked bike ride, nudists appeared at the Oregon Legislature on Monday — clothed — to ask lawmakers not to let their lifestyle get wrapped up in an effort to regulate strip clubs.
The battle over bare skin renews familiar debates about balancing freedom with neighborhood standards in a state known for its liberal protections of free speech — and nude expression.
Nudist advocates testified against a bill that would ask voters to change free-speech protections in the state constitution to let communities keep strip clubs out of neighborhoods. But, nudists warn, that might unintentionally allow cities to outlaw nude recreation.
“We want to protect our rights,” said John Kinman, past president of the American Association for Nude Recreation, which has joined the American Civil Liberties Union in opposing the measure.
They’re worried that the law won’t differentiate between strippers and nudists?
There’s a difference between nudists and strippers. Strippers are desperate people that some sad people will pay money to see naked while nudists are sad people we’re desperate to not see naked.
Liberals are always yelling that they want privacy in their own bedroom where nobody can tell them what to do but then they try to make the entire world their bedroom.
Seriously, are there any adults left in America? Anywhere?

Strippers are desperate people who some sad people will pay money to see naked while nudists are sad people we're desperate to not see naked. Matthew, you have got this right. Seriously, though, for a person to denude themselves of clothes, would cause them to become subject to bodily injury, (scrapes and splinters) and object to a lesser degree of protection from civil law, as common sense and the common law and good dictate that one MUST cover oneself in the public venue

"Men have legally strolled the streets in nothing but tennis shoes."
Wusses. I often wandered around campus without shoes, socks or any other foot coverings. To be fair, I was wearing clothes, but nothing to protect my feet. 🙂

Oh.
My.
Gosh.

People shouldn't be enjoying there bodies. God make their bodies for reproduction. Any type of nudity should be forbidden. A naked body is disgusting. Wear some clothes you morons. God would not have made clothes if he didn't want us to wear them.

I am opposed to organized nudity.

They seem to be simply RUDE —
REACTIONARIES UNITED for DERMATOLOGICAL EXPOSURE

Please, Kathy. Bodies are beautiful, and we should enjoy the good things God gave us. But as sinful as we are, public nudity would be occasion for sin for most, if not all, of us.
There are also hygienic reasons for wearing clothes.

I am constantly amazed at the un-Christian attitudes and language that some of us use when talking about ideas that are unusual.
God created us all, therefore our bodies are good and beautiful, even when they're not perfect. It's what we choose to do with our bodies and our thoughts about bodies that counts. That's what these nudists are trying to make people understand – instead of lusting after strippers, we should celebrate the body as the gift it is.
Maybe if you spoke to one of these naked children of God instead of casting stones, you might find you have more in common than you thought.

If GOD would have wanted us to be nude he would have created us that way. We would have been born that way. My body is a temple and if in fact God created it and then it is a piece of art.
Does it matter greatly
If a body is not whole
It is merely a container
A convenience for a soul
As a Christain some of you seem really uncomfortable in your God given birthday suit. Such a shame that you can't celebrate the temple and container that God gave you for your soul. At the very least I hope your takeing care of your container.

I am appalled at what passes for "good Christian behaviour." Calling people morons? RUDE and in "disgusting" bodies?
According to your own docterine, God made man in his own image. One might assume God would then take offense to being called a moron, RUDE and disgusting. I suppose in an online forum it's easier to sit in judgement than to stand before your Creator and say these things to Them.
As a native Oregonian, and a non-nudist, I LOVE that my state has embraced the human body so that our children aren't shamed into thinking they were born defective and sinful. It's a BODY for pete's sake. Not a choice. We are born naked, Adam and Eve lived (and presumably recreated) naked until they felt shame for their own actions.
God didn't force them into clothing, they hid themselves.
I would be curious to know how many of the posters in opposition have actually encountered a nudist in a "public place." Be clear that I am not referring to a nude person at an event such as the bike ride (which frankly, is not unique to Portland, they happen all over the world).
And as far as being concerned for a nudists hygeine and safety– really? Maybe you could say a prayer instead of feigning concern.

God made man and said that it was very good.
Man covered the body with clothes which he made and said that it was now much better. God hates pride more than anything else!

Hello. Any Catholics out there who know Church teaching on shame? It goes something like this…
Before original sin, man could look at a woman like we look at our little naked toddler (not including pervs)…innocently. However, the forbidden fruit carried a sentence of shame that made lust evident to the adult Adam and Eve. Accordingly, the first couple sought a way to cover themselves in order to not be subject to the embarrassment of lust (i.e.- shame). We still do that when we reach the age of reason- usually before this age if not "raised by wolves".
We are glad to have our bodies and feed and clothe them accordingly. We also use them discreetly to unite ourselves with our lawful spouse to enjoy this safe intimacy and create more fleshly beings like ourselves.
This is the way we "show off" what God has given us.
Nudists only want to expose themselves to embarrass others and to garner attention for themselves (prove me wrong, before you complain about the stereotype).
The rest of us should simply seek to develop our personalities to the extent that people will want to talk to us for the sake of our interesting conversation not our sagging body parts.

Don't forget, before the fall Adam and Eve were "naked without shame." After the fall, in Genesis Chapter 3, God Himself, made clothes for them because the clothes themselves were not good enough.
Go and read Chapter 3 of Genesis. It is a manipulative and childish tactic to attack people who do not buy the self worshiping nudist mentality as if they're ashamed. Our bodies are "good" but since the fall we have to work pretty hard to subject them to to will of God, one way is by clothing them. Or else the harsh reality of concupiscence rears it's ugly head.
If you think not and actually think everyone should be able to be naked when ever they feel like it you are not being realistic at best, delusional maybe and God forbid promoting an evil agenda at worst.
We have many sex perverts in the world who do nothing much more than feed their perverted lusts of the flesh. They use a lot of people for their own perverted pleasure. Everyone walking around nude would make things very to say the least.
It's lunacy to think exposing more flesh has a sort of curing effect on perverted desire. Yeah, and another piece of chocolate cake is gonna make you skinnier.
Common sense people.

This piece of Oregon legislation is much more about chipping away at our constitution than nudity. This piece of legislation would take away the legislators power to regulate and give it to local municipalities in the way of zoning. What next? Will some communities decide to force all church businesses to an industrial area of the town.
Oregon's constitution currently protects religious rights….we can't afford to let the strip bars chip away at our constitution.
