This is just unbelievable. And by unbelievable I mean perfectly predictable but still horrifying.
As you know, the owner of Chick-Fil-A has said that marriage is between a man and a woman. This is a position that was completely yawn worthy for the last few thousand years but has now become instantly controversial. To say it now is to open yourself to being called a hatemonger and a homophobe and risk the wrath of the media.
Well, not just the wrath. It also invites investigations from the media. Newsweek put this out on their TUMBLR. It looks to me like a call for character assassination to anyone who has anything bad to say about Chick-Fil-A. Check it out:
Chick-Fil-A came under criticism this month after a report by the organization Equality Matters revealed that the company donated around $2 million to antigay Christian organizations in 2010. “Guilty as charged,” the fast-food chain’s president Dan Cathy said over allegations that his company is antigay (“We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit.”).
So. Here we are. Tumblr, listen up.
We’re hoping to find a current or former employee of Chick-Fil-A who might want to spill the beans on life inside the alleged antigay company.
If that’s you, or you know someone who might want to talk to us, please email [email protected]. And if you’d like to help spread the word of our search, a reblog or a tweet would be most appreciated.
You see how Newsweek seems to believe “antigay” and “supporting traditional marriage” are synonyms.
This Brian Ries seems to be a big fan of Tumblr because I think he’s the same guy who used it in 2010 to silence Sarah Palin. Remember when Palin wrote a Facebook post about the Ground Zero mosque. Someone got on Tumblr and urged readers to report Palin’s post as “hate speech.” And the drones did so until Facebook pulled Palin’s post.
Ries even reportedly bragged about it at The Daily Beast, writing:
Sometime Thursday morning I realized Sarah Palin’s controversial Facebook note about the “Ground Zero Mosque” had vanished. In its place was an error message that explained the network “could not find the note you requested.” It had “either been deleted” or had never existed in the first place.
In fact, the post had been removed by Facebook’s automated systems, according to a spokesman, the result of a grassroots campaign by Tumblr users to report the former governor’s post as a “hate speech.” It was an idea introduced by a Tumblr blogger the media has identified as “moneyries.” Hello everyone, that’s me.
That’s what these folks do. They don’t want to argue the facts. They don’t want to look at the studies. They want what they want and if you don’t fall in line, you will be attacked ruthlessly.
All I can say is that today at some point my five kids and I will be heading to Chick-Fil-A. Hope to see you there.
