Normally I ignore anything that goes down on MSNBC but Chris Matthews was honored by my alma mater, a Catholic university, so I get especially annoyed at the embarrassing things he does.
Here, Matthews asks former RNC Chair Michael Steele, if Republicans freak out at the sight of black people.
I found it interesting that he says that at Democratic conventions the black people all hang out together in a group but at Republican events they’re intermingled in. And that’s evidence, according to Matthews, that Republicans are racist. And all I can think is doesn’t that actually indicate the exact opposite though?
Anyway, here’s Matthews embarrassing himself.

His response of "No, what are you talking about?" pretty much says it.

This reminds me of the short story/anecdote 'The Black Table' (part of the African-American literature studies in college) which *does* say that the fact that the black children all congregated together in the lunchroom meant that white kids were putting off an air that didn't allow them to commingle. Matthews is such a think oaf.

Woops *thick oaf

What an opportunity! Steele should have said, "Chris, it's called desegregation."

Um, does he realize that he's asking that question TO A BLACK MAN?

Jill, not only that, but a Black Republican. Does Matthews think that Steele freaks out every time he looks in a mirror?
"Aaaah! Oh, it's just me."

Chris means that at Democrats' conventions, people feel free to be themselves while at GOPs' conventions they are compelled to put up a show. If grouping by race is being themselves, then that speaks for itself – of something extremely negative. Mingling together for show or perhaps for real speaks for itself too; if it is for show then at least people try.

I have found that more often than not, people assume that other people are like them. If one was the type to group together with like colored people and not mingle, then one would assume the same of others.
This should shed a lot of light on Chris Matthews character as it should on many, many others.

@Jill: Dems don't believe that REAL blacks CAN be Republicans. Chrissy thinks Steele is not REALLY black, you see. Chris Matthews is a damned fool.

Rick touched upon something known as a "safe space" of some sort. I don't know if that's honestly the case.
As for GOP conventions, I just assume it's because there aren't many people of color at GOP conventions.

@ Jacobitess: I learned about the 'Black Table' at the mess hall in the Navy. Opened my naive eyes.
