The Palin family’s often discussed and much maligned decision not to kill their own child in the womb because he’d been diagnosed with Downs Syndrome is causing at least one doctor to worry that abortions of Downs Syndrome babies might decrease because people might be inspired by the Palins’.
The Globe and Mail article initially points out a couple who supports Palin’s decision but then the story gets real weird and ugly. Here’s how it goes from there:
But others fear Ms. Palin’s emergence as a parental role model sends a different message. As a vocal opponent of abortion, Ms. Palin’s widely discussed decision to keep her baby, knowing he would be born with the condition, may inadvertently influence other women who may lack the necessary emotional and financial support to do the same, according to André Lalonde, executive vice-president of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada.
Dr. Lalonde said that above all else, women must be free to choose, and that popular messages to the contrary could have detrimental effects on women and their families.
“The worry is that this will have an implication for abortion issues in Canada,” he said.
Some reports indicate that nine out of ten babies diagnosed with Downs Syndrome are aborted. And this clown is worried that number might go down.
Could you imagine that somebody’s actual worry is that people might be inspired to love a child? Oh nooooooooo!!!! Plain and simple folks. This has nothing to do with “choice.” It’s eugenics. That’s it.

What is the world coming to, that you would be condemned for choosing life? This has got to be one of the most disturbing stories I have seen.

Women must be free to choose, but only so long as this particular choice is not on the list of options. Pah. And these are doctors.

I don’t get the logic here. “A woman must be free to choose” is a popular message today, whether we agree with it or not. Yet, when another message begins to rise and the popularity of the old fades out, then it’s a detriment? This is a generation of uncommon non-sense, for sure.
Any society that is established takes as its highest goal subservience to family. It is called to serve and protect the family structure out of which it rose. Many Americans feel, however, that the society is here for self-centered happiness.
Hrm… finally someone stands up for what’s really important and he or she is persecuted. I read about something like this in a book, but it happened in Jerusalem, not America.

Freaking death merchant.

“above all else, women must be free to choose”
Did you see that? “Above all else.” More important than world peace, more important than lives being saved or ending hunger. More important than the family or freedom of speech and religion. More important to them than God. That is why this is a religion. A religion of death.
“First do no harm.”
Doc needs to revisit the oath she took.
“Above all else, STOP KILLING BABIES!!!”
