According to FoxNews the director of “Basic Instinct” will make scandalous claims about Jesus and Mary in an upcoming biography about Jesus.
In his upcoming biography of Jesus, “Basic Instinct” director Paul Verhoeven will make the shocking claim that Christ probably was the son of Mary and a Roman soldier who raped her during the Jewish uprising in Galilee, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Verhoeven also writes that Christ was not betrayed by Judas Iscariot, one of the 12 original apostles of Jesus, as the New Testament states.
The 69-year-old Dutch-born director, best known for directing the famous Sharon Stone crotch scene in “Basic Instinct” and who also directed “Showgirls,” starring Elizabeth Berkley in one of the most panned films of the ’90s, claims he and co-biographer Rob van Scheers have written the most realistic portrayal of Jesus ever published.
The book, to be published in the Netherlands by Amsterdam-based Meulenhoff, took Verhoeven more than 20 years to research, and is due out in September, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Verhoeven is in discussions for an English-language version, the showbusiness newspaper reported.
Verhoeven directed such sci-fi action hits as “Total Recall” and “RoboCop,” as well as the sci-fi bust “Starship Troopers.”
Over the years, Verhoeven, who is Catholic and holds a doctorate in mathematics and physics from the University of Leiden, was a regular attendee of seminars by religion scholar Robert W. Funk, who died in 2005. Those seminars called into question miracles and statements attributed to Jesus.
Verhoeven, who turns 70 in July, reportedly has had a lifelong ambition to make a film about Jesus, based on scientific research. Verhoeven decided to write the book to raise interest in the project, according to the report.
This is such idiocy. Essentially he’s gone through the New Testament and thought up “more realistic” ways things could be construed.
And let me make one point clear -Verhoeven is not a Catholic. To be a Catholic you must believe that “by the power of the Holy Spirit he (Jesus) was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures.” He doesn’t. So he’s not.
Verhoeven studied under Dr. Robert W. Funk, founder of the Jesus Seminar, which called into question New Testament miracle stories and the authenticity of many of the statements attributed to Jesus.
Dr. Funk rose to public fame after he founded the Westar Institute in Santa Rosa in 1985 to promote research and education on what he called biblical literacy. Its first project, the Jesus Seminar, he said renewed the quest for the historical Jesus.
Many loony liberal Christians applauded its scholarship for making Christianity “believable and relevant in the postmodern world.”
Among the Jesus Seminar’s assertions was that many of the miracles attributed to Jesus never occurred, at least in a literal sense. The Jesus Seminar concluded in 1995 that Jesus did not rise bodily from the dead. The scholars also agreed that there probably was no tomb and that Jesus’ body probably was disposed of by his executioners, not his followers.
Why? Because it’s improbable to rise from the dead and therefore cannot be believed. Never mind then what Jesus said about returning and then actually having the temerity to appear again in the Bible. But don’t worry. Funk solved that little problem by redacting sections of the Bible.
Here’s how they did it: The seminar voted on the authenticity of the biblical accounts, using different colored beads for grading: red for undoubtedly accurate, pink for probable, gray for passages containing some historical truth, and black for passages they found without historical basis. In all, 80 percent of the passages attributed to Jesus were rejected. 80 percent.
Yes. They felt comfortable editing the Bible.
So get ready. I’m sure the liberal media will have him on all the morning shows to discuss this great scholarly work. He’ll be on The View and CNN laughing that he doesn’t understand all the hubbub and saying his critics should just read the book. Well not me. I’ll just read the Bible. The un-redacted version. And the only beads I’ll use are Rosary beads. And I’ll try to say a prayer for Paul Verhoeven. I’m not sure I’ll be able to…but I’ll try.
